Pitt Baseball Ranked in All Five Major Polls

May 13, 2013

PITTSBURGH – Coming off of a weekend sweep of Villanova and its 40th victory of the season, the University of Pittsburgh baseball team is now ranked in all five major collegiate baseball polls for the first time in program history.

The Panthers are ranked by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (16) for the seventh week this season, Baseball America (21) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Associate (23) for the second straight week and have cracked the rankings in ESPN Coaches Poll (23) and Perfect Game (23) for the first times in school history. The No. 16 ranking from CBN is also a program best. Pitt’s previous best ranking came in May of 2010 when it climbed as high as 20th in the polls.

The seven weeks in the rankings more than doubles the prior best mark of three weeks set back in 2010.

Outside of this season and 2010, Pitt’s only other national rankings came from CBN in the final polls of the 1995 and 1967 seasons when they ranked No. 28 and No. 27 respectively.

Pitt returns to action on Tuesday, May 14, when it hosts Kent State at 6 p.m. in its 2013 home finale at Charles L. Cost Field at the Petersen Sports Complex.
