  • Current GED seekers need to heed the deadline for the current program

    SANFORD–Dawn Tucker, Dean of College and Career Readiness at CCCC reminds persons currently working on their GED that the clock is ticking. As of December 31, the current program will no longer be used and the new program, which follows the Common Core program will be in effect January 2.   • Lee County schools are gearing up to increase test scores

    SANFORD–Now that the results of the 2013 spring end of grade and end of course assessments have been released, Lee County school officials are gearing up to increase their scores. Superintendent Andy Bryan will talk about the recent scores during an interview on GP news Friday morning. Tune in at 9:35 to hear the interview.   • Lee County is getting veterans center

    SANFORD–According to reports from the Chamber of Commerce, a veterans office will be built in Lee County. Administration officials had been looking for a site, and reports indicate that land has been purchased near Coty on Broadway Road. When built, the facility will employ at least fifty people.   • Basking in his first day as newly elected Mayor, Chet Mann talked about his plans

    SANFORD–Local businessman Chet Mann is basking in his win as Mayor of Sanford.   • Benjamine Moore Paint will soon spruce up the town

    SANFORD–A representative from Benjamine Moore Paints came to town Wednesday and gave the timetable for painting and sprucing up downtown following a contest win earlier this year.   • Proficiency scores dropped around the state

    SANFORD–The results of the 2012-13 spring end of grade and end of course assessments show proficiency scores dropped with new standards put into place last year. In Lee County, five schools did not meet growth. 64.3% of schools met growth, while the state wide growth rate is 71.3%.   • A body found in Southern Pines has been identified

    SOUTHERN PINES–The body of a man found on a walking trail in Southern Pines Monday morning has been identified as a Laurens, South Carolina man.
