viewhistorytalk

Dota 2 is a game that is as fun to watch as it is to play. The competitive/tournament scene has a long and illustrious history with top players some of which have been active for upwards of 10 years. Numerous organizations host online and offline tournaments and leagues which provide teams the opportunity to prove their might and compete for money. This is a beginner's guide to following competitive Dota 2 and features information and resources that will help you better find, follow and appreciate tournament matches.

In-game Tickets

To watch live and replays of matches in game, you will have to purchase the corresponding tournament ticket. These can range from 99¢ to $15 and allow you to watch the matches as they happen or at any time in the future with commentary (sometimes in multiple languages) and with full camera controls. A few tournaments will choose to provide the games without a ticket cost such as DreamHack Winter 2012 and Valve's The International events.

Dota 2 Store: Tournaments

Additionally by watching in-game you can obtain specially labelled cosmetic items by supporting one of the teams playing through the use of a pennant. These cost 99 cents each and can also be found on the Dota 2 Store. Multiple pennants can be combined to have a higher chance at earning a drop. Items drop on first blood, hero denies, multi-kills (2+ kills by the same hero close together) and at the end of each match.

Rankings/Match Histories

GosuGamers and joinDOTA run ranking systems that rank teams based on their past performances. These are not great systems for judging exactly who has the advantage in a match, but serve as a tool to show who has preformed well historically, as well as to look at their recent results. You can also find the respective team rosters on each team's page.
