The 2nd online gaming permit in New Jersey goes to Golden Nugget

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement on Wednesday announced without comment that Golden Nugget had obtained the second Internet Gaming Permit ahead of the Nov. 26 initial launch of such games.

Borgata had received the first just days ago, with lots more potentially to come.

East Rutherford tentatively approves sweetened financial deal with American Dream Meadowlands developer Triple Five

guest post by colleague Christopher Maag, who was at this East Rutherford Borough Council meeting last night that led to his report below:

East Rutherford approved a proposal Tuesday night that would bring about $128.6 million to the borough over 30 years for hosting American Dream, the huge shopping and entertainment complex in the Meadowlands.

The proposed financing package, quietly unveiled Tuesday night at the borough’s council meeting, also would save the borough $31 million in future interest payments on its new police station. The plan also includes about $22.5 million in upfront payments to be made as soon as a package of complex municipal bonds is sold to private investors.

Route 3 construction work will NOT be completed in time for the Super Bowl, contractor says

Thousands of Meadowlands Super Bowl ticketholders will be staying in midtown Manhattan on the weekend concluding with that Feb. 2 NFL title game.

The nearest travel path for many of them to drive to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ would be to take the Lincoln Tunnel, then Route 3 West to the stadium.

Too bad, then, that the multi-year Route 3 construction project won’t finish on time.

But will this cause major traffic chaos?

Meadowlands Sheraton becoming Hilton Meadowlands; the O’Bannon connection

If you go to the Hilton hotel website, you will find that the company has a new property in the North Jersey area – it’s the Hilton Secaucus Meadowlands.

The site adds, “This hotel will soon be joining the Hilton Worldwide Portfolio of Brands but is not yet accepting reservations. It is scheduled to open in October 2013.”

Ok, that’s…. now, basically. Actually, the Sheraton site says the changeover is coming Nov. 15.

Colleague Hugh Morley has all the details in today’s edition of The Record – this “new property” is located not in Secaucus in Hudson County, but next door in Bergen County’s East Rutherford.

American Dream Meadowlands: here’s what you need to know

First there was this story about the Bergen County Improvement Authority’s tentative approval on Sept. 11 of a plan to issue up to $800 million in bonds toward completing construction of the American Dream Meadowlands (formerly Xanadu) project.

Then came a detailed explanation about what the institutional investment committee thinks about the pros and cons of such a large public offering.

Nets no longer offering paper tickets

UPDATE: with info on the specifics of what fans were sent

The Brooklyn Nets have announced that they have implemented a new digital ticketing system for season ticket holders that offers greater flexibility when attending games and distributing tickets. The technologically advanced digital card also serves as a personalized membership to the Brooklyn Nets Rewards program, a new loyalty program this season for All Access ticket holders. The Nets are the New York area’s first team of the four major professional sports leagues to offer a rewards points program for season ticket holders, the club notes.

Introducing your NEW Madison Square Garden

It’s taken three long summers and nearly $1 billion in costs, but the “transformation” of Madison Square Garden is nearly complete.

The “new’ Garden will be unveiled on Oct. 25 and will feature two first-of-their-kind “Chase Bridges.”

In a nod to New York City’s many renowned suspension bridges, the Chase Bridges [yes, everything these days must have a corporate sponsor] are suspended from The Garden’s ceiling by 24 (north bridge) and 26 (south bridge) steel tube hangers.

Rutgers going to bigtime Big Ten: with big costs to boot

Rutgers University is going all-in next year as they land in the Big Ten, one of the nation’s most prestigious collegiate sports leagues.

Bigtime TV contracts, lots of national attention, a beefed-up recruiting pitch to emphasize the same – doesn’t that have to also be a ticket to athletic department windfalls?

Not necessarily, as my colleague Pat Alex reported in Saturday’s edition of The Record:

North Jersey to add another minor league baseball franchise, in Sussex County

It’s been three years since Sussex County’s Skylands Park has had a minor league baseball franchise, and the St. Louis Cardinals moved their New York-Penn League minor league affiliate from this park in Augusta to State College, Pa. in 2005.

But now comes word that a group of North Jersey investors have acquired the 4,200-seat park for a reported $850,000.

Colleague Richard Newman reports that Al Dorso of Pompton Plains has a group of partners who include his sons, Al Jr. and Michael, also of Pompton Plains; Nick Corrado of Hardyston; Mike Dokachev of Nutley; and Bob Brumale of Wayne.

Nets add Chinese firm as partner to build Atlantic Yards project at Barclays Center site

We’ve most left the Atlantic Yards project to other media these days, since the Brooklyn site where the Nets now call home – thanks to construction of the $1 billion Barclays Center – is no longer relevant to New Jersey (even the arena doesn’t seem to have a major impact on concert bookings for Izod Center and Prudential Center).

But today’s announcement by Forest City Ratner is well worth noting, since the company now has a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Shanghai-based Greenland Group Co.
