Childhood Stunting: Challenges and Opportunities - colloquium

Place: Salle B, WHO headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland
Date: 13:00–18:30 CET, 14 October 2013

The WHO Department of Nutrition for Health and Development (NHD) is hosting a colloquium that is open to WHO staff and external participants. Those who cannot join in person can participate online.

Operational issues and country benchmarks

Discussions will focus on operational issues around setting and implementing national stunting reduction agendas with the long-term goal of achieving the stunting reduction targets set by the World Health Assembly.

Country examples will be presented, highlighting opportunities and strategies to formulate and implement policy. Some countries have successfully translated high-level political commitment to reduce malnutrition into multisector-driven nationwide action. The colloquium will seek to draw lessons on how barriers and bottlenecks can be overcome.

A holistic perspective

Dr Francesco Branca, Director, NHD, will present the introductory and concluding remarks. The event will be moderated by Dr David Pelletier from Cornell University.

Speakers include representatives of governments, donors, partners, international agencies and civil society. A concluding round table session will address how countries can set and implement stunting reduction agendas.
