Best Devil Ever - with Jim Sterling!

God took time out of his schedule of being thanked for Jim Sterling to bless the No Right Answer crew with Jim's presence. Can he convince us of who the best Devil is?

Watch Video

Please the best devil ever was Ray Wise, from the TV show Reaper. Everyone knows this.

Hate to be "that guy", but do you do realize Hades in not a Devil, right? He was just flanderized a lot because that is a Disney animated movie, to the point he is devilish due to being "the bad guy"...

In that sense, Ghost Raider, Constantine and Devil's Advocate presented better versions of the prince of darkness. Heck, I would take Little Nicky's version over that one.

The best evil, is the one that's stopping the vid from playing.

So the best devil is actually Scar in human form?

I was kinda disappointed with the guest...Jim just kinda, blended into the background ;D

Nobody beats this Devil, man.

I'm serious, it's the best Satan I've ever seen on screen. Not some fist shaking angry man, just a mysterious stranger.

Well they're talking about this specific version of Hades, not the one from actual Greek mythology. In the Disney version Hades is "the devil".

No love for RObert De Niro in Angel Heart? best devil I've seen. Or Al Pacino in the The Devil's Advocate.

I hear Marriott hotel rooms make great sets XD

This was pretty neat. Any chance we'll see any other impromptu cross-overs from Expo?

How the hell does this scoring system work? They just get a point every time they make a point, except Jim didn't get a point on the last one so the other guy arbitrarily 'won'?

Apparently now I have to watch "The Prophecy".

We actually kinda want this monster to win, and in a way, he does, and is happy about it, and we kind of are too!

EDIT: I have to write that Jim "won" this one as to the two they chose. Hades is almost a clown. You can sympathize with him but he's not chilling like Vigo. But Vigo's part is very small in that movie. Less time to mess it up. I still vote I win so far :-)

Ray Wise in "Reaper" was great, but I think he stands on the shoulders of other fun-loving Satans such as the fantastic Ray Walston as the dancing, singing Mr. Applegate from "Damn Yankees!" and the unforgettable Walter Huston as Mr. Scratch in "Devil and Daniel Webster".

I'd like to put forth Crowley from Supernatural. I know he's not the devil per se, but Satan is defeated and he's the new king of hell. And he's an awesome awesome man.

So glad someone mentioned De Niro in Angle Heart, I'll gladly second it. Also liked the depiction in Constantine, though it's such a shallow movie overall it's hard for me to recommend much.

Pacino is... just too Pacino. It's amusing, but very 'Hoo-hah!". Could've been so many of his characters.

So you show the best devil ever but don't mention him?
Fo' shame.

Well argued, gentlemen. I probably would have tried to argue Pacino's character in The Devil's Advocate rather than Mortinson's. You can sort-of see where Pacino is going with his plans and schemes, if in a bit of a cartoon supervillain kind of way (very much like Hades, in fact), and from a purely humanistic standpoint, has some pretty attractive ideas (why yes, I would like to have sex with that beautiful woman to conceive and raise a child with her... minus the side-effects of creepy context and possible Armageddon).

Perhaps discussing lawyers arguing about Satan is a little too... "meta" for No Right Answer? I can see how that would get weird.

He was actually going to be my choice. I just couldn't think of much else to say about him other than "LOOK AT HIM HE'S AMAZING" though.

I know, I am just such a mythology nerd that I can't help to point that out every time someone brings that version of Hades out.

Which is a fair point.
Point that and 'DAT VOICE' there isn't much to say. But god damn.

That was surreal! Never seen anything like it. Like a kid's show, but it wasn't.

OK now you've done it. There's some 160 episodes on Netflix. They're in my queue. I guess I'll have no life for a while.

Bwahaha, that ending and the "unamused" expression from Jim, lol.

On that note, I also liked Tim Curry's "Darkness," if it hasn't already been mentioned.

That's 80's claymation for ya.

I remember first seeing this movie on daytime television, and then suddenly this scene pops up...

How on earth did you guys avoid a South Park reference?

"I want to live up there!"

Sorry boys but I got a better one for ya!

Bill Cosby's Devil...

vs.

George Burns' Devil.

I always thought Hades as a Devil stand in is the bland choice, considering that Hades was no such being or even similar in character or context in Greek Mythology.

Ah well, at least James Woods Hades was still great.

My Lucifer doubles as a night club pianist after he quit his job.

Aw, come on, I know this movie kinda sucks, but it has the best devil ever. He arrives to Earth, and this is the first thing he does:

Edward James Olmos in Zoot Suit. Doesn't do much himself, but is basically the narrator and framing device, but man does he ooze cool. You know, Edward James Olmos.

"I can lay you our and fill your mouth with you mother's feces... or we can talk" - Yeah, Viggo is awesome

Christopher Walken as Gabriel is crazy awesome too. Movie good - watch it if you haven't.

I thought jim was the devil

That is pretty damn amazing. Thanks for showing this.

Damn, you beat me to it, so I'll just post some links and info about him.

While he had previously appeared in an issue of Neil Gaiman's Sandman, it was in Season of Mists that he became significant: Dream decides to go rescue someone he had previously condemned to hell, so he gears up for war, sets all his affairs in order and heads of to Hell, only to find the devil has quit, and has given Dream the key to Hell.

This Lucifer later got his own series written by Mike Carey, about him trying to get out from under his father's (God) shadow and making his own way (and universe). It's an amazing series, and if you are a fan of comic books I highly recommend it. Actually, the series is so good that even if you aren't a fan of comic books I'd recommend it (it's one of the series I use to introduce people to comics).

Pacino as the Devil made you forget about how dead pan Keanu Reeves is and just how bad that fake southern accent was in that movie....and he's a fucking Lawyer. It's perfect.
