More Oktoberfest and Morton’s Steakhouse re-opens at The Shops at Riverside

Madeleine’s Petit Paris presents an an Oktoberfest Buffet on Sunday. Oct. 13 The meal includes Swiss knockwurst salad, pork schnitzel, spaetzle, bratwurst, potato salad, apple and raisin strudel, and many other German specialties. Morton’s The Steakhouse at The Shops at Riverside has recently re-opened after undergoing renovations; the steakhouse now has a special three-course Prime Lunch menu available Wednesday through Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.  Also, a new seafood restaurant, The Oceanaire Seafood Room— run by the same parent company as Morton’s— is slated to open in the late fall.

Secaucus’ “Field Station: Dinosaurs” extends season to Sun., Nov. 10

fieldFuture scientists and paleontologists who have not had the chance to visit “Field Station: Dinosaurs” in Secaucus are in luck!

The 20-acre park designed to show what it feels like to be at a newly discovered dinosaur dig site, is extending its season to include Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p .m. through Sun., Nov. 10. The park is also open to the public on Mon., Oct. 14 (Columbus Day) and Thur. and Fri., Nov. 7 and 8 (teacher’s convention).

The station is at One Dinosaur Way in Secaucus.

Flywheel studio in Englewood to host open house, free classes

flywheelReady to ride? Indoor cycling studio Flywheel Sports in Englewood is hosting an open house tomorrow through Sunday Sept. 22, with complimentary classes available for both the indoor cycling and the body sculpting class FlyBarre, in addition to prizes and healthy refreshments.

During the Friday 6:30 p.m. class, riders will be joined by special guest DJ Q-Tip (of the hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest). Manzos to shoot pilot for Bravo spinoff series

“The Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Caroline Manzo has been given the greenlight by Bravo to shoot a pilot for a spinoff series, a Bravo spokesperson has confirmed.

Thewrap.com reported earlier that the working title of the show is “Manzo’d with Children” and will follow Manzo, her husband Al, and their adult children, Albie, Chris and Lauren. The pilot will also include Caroline’s sister, Aunt Fran, who was on an episode of “The Housewives of New Jersey” earlier season, according to the website.

The finale of season 5 of “RHONJ” airs September 29.

The Met: Live In HD to present Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” on the big screen Oct. 5

The Met: Live in HD series will return to the big screen for the eighth consecutive season on Sat., Oct. 5 at 12:55 p.m. with Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.”

Anna Netrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien will star as the lovestruck Tatiana and the imperious Onegin in Tchaikovsky’s fateful romance. Deborah Warner’s new production, conducted by Valery Gergiev, and directed by Fiona Shaw in her Met debut, is set in the late 19th century and moves episodically from farmhouse to ballroom, with a powerful snowstorm providing the dramatic setting for the finale. An encore presentation will be in select movie theaters on Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld to join SNY’s New York Mets coverage on Tue. Sept. 17

SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, announced that comedian Jerry Seinfeld will join the network’s Mets coverage on Tue., Sept. 17.

Beginning with SNY’s pre-game show at 6 p.m., Seinfeld will team up with lead studio analyst Bob Ojeda and host Chris Carlin on Mets “First Pitch.”

Following the pre-game show, Seinfeld will head up to the broadcast booth to join Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Gary Cohen to handle the play-by-play for the Mets-Giants game.

This will mark the second time that Seinfeld has called a Mets game. His first time was on June 23, 2010.

William Paterson University to hold tribute concert for the late Mulgrew Miller Sept. 22

MILLER_MulgrewA tribute concert for the late Mulgrew Miller, the jazz pianist and composer who served as director of jazz studies and professor of music at William Paterson University from 2005 until his death in May, will be held 4 p.m. Sun., Sept. 22 in Shea Center on the University’s campus in Wayne.

This concert will feature several ensembles comprised of Miller’s former William Paterson University students, as well as his William Paterson University faculty colleagues, including David Demsey, saxophone; Armen Donelian, piano; Bill Goodwin, drums; Vincent Herring, saxophone; Steve LaSpina, bass; Marcus McLaurine, bass; Chico Mendoza, drums; Paul Meyers, guitar; Bill Mobley, trumpet; Tim Newman, trombone; Pete McGuinness, trombone; Dave Rogers, trumpet; and James Weidman, piano, with special guests.

All proceeds from ticket receipts and donations will benefit the newly established Mulgrew Miller Scholarship Fund.

Admission is $15, $12 for senior citizens.

Third season of AMC’s “Comic Book Men” set for Sun., Oct. 13 premiere

silentThe third season of AMC’s “Comic Book Men,” a one-hour unscripted series that captures the world of Red Bank-based comic book store, “Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash” will premiere midnight Sun., Oct. 13.

“Comic Book Men” documents the daily banter of “The Secret Stash” (owned by filmmaker Kevin Smith) and its employees and customers, as well as the emotion of buying and selling collectibles and comic memorabilia.

Season three will focus on the 75th Anniversary of Superman and a re-visit of the devastation of Hurricane Sandy a year later.

Skyline Theatre Company, Fair Lawn announces 2013-2014 season

Skyline Theatre Company has announced their 2013-2014 productions, marking the start of their fifth full season at the George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation in the Fair Lawn Community Center.

Skyline’s season kicks off in the fall with the Broadway musical smash that made Barbra Streisand a star of stage and screen, “Funny Girl”.

Featuring the classic hit songs “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “Funny Girl” played over 1,300 performances on Broadway and comes to Skyline for a limited run this Fri., Oct. 11 to Sun., Oct. 13.

New York Yankees and CBS Radio reach multi-year broadcast agreement

It’s official. The New York Yankees are changing radio teams.

After days of speculation, the New York Yankees today (Wed., Sept. 11) announced that they have reached a multi-year broadcast agreement with CBS Radio for Yankees games to be simulcast on WFAN-AM (660) and FM (101.9) beginning in 2014.

Both radio stations will carry all Yankees regular season and postseason games, Yankees pregame and postgame shows, as well as broadcasts of select Yankees spring training games.

CBS Radio has also acquired Spanish-language Yankees broadcasts rights on a multi-year basis.
