PhenotypeAppearance of an organism The phenotype includes all internal and external structures and functions of an organism. Throughout the course of development, the phenotype of an organism can change. Although basic features of an organism are determined by its genetic makeup, its phenotype depends on which genes are actually expressed. Organisms that reproduce sexually often carry a respective version of every gene from each parent. Often, only the dominant version is expressed. |
