Southern HybridisationSee: Hybridisation Southern hybridisation was developed and published by Edwin Southern in 1975. In this procedure, DNA fragments are separated in a gel according to molecular weight and then blotted on a filter. The actual hybridisation occurs on the blotted filter. Keeping consistent with the name Southern, further procedures have been developed: the transfer of RNA onto a filter has been named "Northern" blot, and with proteins, the procedure is called "Western" blot. |
