1. Help the food pantry, have your pet blessed
The First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford will conduct a "Drive-by" food drive and a pet blessing on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Residents can drop off food between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. without leaving the car, on East Passaic Avenue between Ridge Road and Park Avenue, where volunteers will be available to unload packages curbside.
From 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. pets are welcomed to the church for the annual blessing of the animals. Any and all pets may be presented during that time to have the blessings of our Lord bestowed on them. One does not need to be a member to participate. The First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford is located on East Passaic Avenue between Park Avenue and Ridge Road. 2. Celebrate the YMCA, community leaders
The Meadowland Area YMCA asks the community to join them on Friday, Oct. 4 at the 6:30 p.m. at the Fiesta, 255 Route 17 South, Wood Ridge. The event will celebrate both the remarkable life of the late Dennis A. Maycher, Past Board President of the Meadowlands Area YMCA and 4 outstanding community leaders: Robert C. 3. Support the library, buy some treasures
On Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., the Friends of the Library will hold their Annual Attic Treasures Sale at the North Arlington Senior Center located behind the North Arlington Library and adjacent to the North Arlington Town Hall. All proceeds benefit the library.
4. Comets, birds and watercolors
On Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m., join Dr. John Sloan, Director of the Observatory, for "Comets and Asteroids: Do Rocks Really Fall from The Sky?" Dr. Sloan will give a non-technical overview of comets and asteroids. Kids can learn about comets that have been observed throughout history and view close-up photographs of asteroids. The program is geared toward children ages 8-12 and is free.
