Snee likely headed to IR

EAST RUTHERFORD — Chris Snee and the Giants waited as long as they could, but with his hip injury not showing much improvement, it is likely the four-time Pro Bowl right guard will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, perhaps as early as today.

Snee, 31, had offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum and bone chips in his left hip and now it appears the same condition has developed in his right hip, perhaps from overcompensation, and all signs point to his having to undergo another surgery.

Giants close to acquiring LB Beason from Carolina

The Giants are in trade talks to acquire former Pro Bowl linebacker Jon Beason for the Panthers for a conditional late-round draft pick, a source confirmed late Thursday night. The potential deal was first reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

According to Glazer, Beason is scheduled to take a physical with the Giants Friday morning and if he passes the deal will be completed.

Beason, a three-time Pro Bowler, is still trying to regain his top form after undergoing knee surgery in the offseason.

JPP has sprained MCL

Jason Pierre-Paul said it almost matter-of-factly.

After undergoing back surgery in the off-season, he said Wednesday that he suffered a sprained MCL in the Giants’ loss to the Chiefs. But he swore it would not slow him down.

Hankins time? & Hill returns

Rookie DT Johnathan Hankins finally could get his chance to shine.

With JPP, Cullen Jenkins, Shaun Rogers and Linval Joseph all banged up — only JPP practiced Wednesday among the four — the second-round pick could make his professional debut Sunday against the Eagles.

Wilson, Jacobs to share load

David Wilson is the man. And Brandon Jacobs will be his understudy.

Beyond that, the Giants will have no other real options at running back this Sunday after cutting Da’Rel Scott yesterday.

UPDATED: Snee, Baas not progressing

Neither RG Chris Snee (hip) nor C David Baas (neck) is making progress in healing, meaning the Giants likely face another week of Jim Cordle at center and either David Diehl or James Brewer at right guard.

Each day Snee doesn’t improve, he seems another step closer to season-ending surgery. Baas, meanwhile, is troubled by a similar ailment that threatened his career in 2011.

EXTENSIVE injury report

The Giants aren’t only struggling. They’re pretty banged-up too.

A whopping (and season-high) 15 players were listed on the team’s pre-practice injury report Wednesday. Four of them are important members of the defensive line. And two more are cornerbacks (Corey Webster, who has missed two straight games, and his replacement, Aaron Ross).

Snee, Baas + Webster ruled OUT, Diehl doubtful for Sunday

EAST RUTHERFORD — Two starting offensive linemen in Chris Snee and David Baas have been ruled out for Sunday and starting cornerback Corey Webster will miss his second straight game as the Giants limp into Arrowhead Stadium desperately seeking a turnaround, not to mention a much-needed victory.

Snee (hip) and Baas (neck) have not practiced all week following the Giants’ 38-0 blanking by the Panthers in Charlotte. Tom Coughlin indicated the Giants have not settled on how they will replace Snee and Baas in the lineup – at least he did not reveal the plan to the media after practice Friday – although it is likely Jim Cordle will get his first NFL start at center and James Brewer will step in for Snee at RG.

CB Corey Webster (hip) sat out another practice Thursday and could miss a second consecutive game.

Tom Coughlin had expected the cornerback to practice. If the nine-year veteran cannot play Sunday, Aaron Ross again will fill in.

JPP getting better

After allowing an NFL-high 115 points in three games, the Giants face a Kansas City offense led by QB Alex Smith that has not committed a single turnover.

But defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said he has seen All-Pro DE Jason Pierre-Paul “starting to get into his groove a little bit” since off-season back surgery.
