The Megaupload co-founder, who is wanted in the US for copyright violations, money laundering and fraud is to launch his own music streaming service while out on bail and awaiting his next court hearing in New Zealand.
38-year-old German billionaire Kim Dotcom (born Kim Schmitz) announced the new service Megabox to his 35,000+ followers via Twitter (between tweets about his #swimatkims pool parties, his two children and wife, recording his album and a photograph of himself with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak).
Schmitz has said the service will rival Spotify but with an August 6 extradition hearing looming - alongside his former Megaupload staff - Schmitz had best launch his new project soon. If extradited to the US and found guilty he faces decades in jail.
Schmitz was accused of a US$500 million breach of Internet copyright laws and arrested in his $30 million Auckland mansion in January.
