Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara praised the second-half response of his players in the 2-2 draw with Motherwell.

United trailed at the break but came back to lead 2-1 before the Steelmen levelled the match again.

"In the first half, they dominated us," said McNamara. "It took us 40 minutes to win our first header in the centre of defence.

"I'm delighted with the spirit in the second half, to come back like that."

Nadir Ciftci and Andrew Robertson were on target for McNamara's men after Henri Anier's opener, with Lionel Ainsworth netting the decisive strike 14 minutes from the end.

"I think in the end, it's two points lost," McNamara told BBC Radio Scotland.

"I thought we were terrific in the second half and [Stuart] Armstrong could have put the game to bed to go 3-1 up, but unfortunately he side-footed into the keeper.

"The lads battled well to go 2-1 up.

"I thought it was a good match, a lot of energy throughout the match. Motherwell started the game well with good energy."

And the Tannadice manager was pleased to see Robertson net his first United goal.

"Terrific today, so consistent," said McNamara of the left-back. "You see all the United fans singing his name and quite rightly so.

"He's been a revelation since he joined. He picked the ball up just outside his 18-yard box and ran the full length of the park to hit that strike.

"He's had a few chances in the last few weeks. I'm delighted he's managed to get his first goal."
