EXCLUSIVE: NBC has closed deals for a comedy project from two actresses in writer-producer roles. The network has put in development a multi-camera comedy executive produced by Don’t Trust The B star Krysten Ritter and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and written by CSI alumna Liz Vassey through Universal TV. Based on an idea by Kaplan, the comedy revolves around a group of six friends who meet each Wednesday night for their weekly bowling league and centers on two of them — a couple, now broken up, who refuse to give up custody of their bowling league. Kaplan took the idea to Ritter, an avid bowling fan, who came on board as an executive producer. Vassey, who has developed with NBC and Uni TV in the past, was tapped to pen the script. She previously co-wrote an episode of CSI while she was a cast member on the veteran CBS crime drama. The comedy project expands WME-repped Ritter’s relationship with NBC and Uni TV where last season she toplined the half-hour pilot Assistance that was left in contention. Kaplan’s broadcast sales so far this season include The Mysteries Of Laura, which has a production commitment at NBC, and The Henchman, which has a put pilot commitment at Fox. For writing, Vassey is repped by ICM Partners, manager Robbie Kass and attorney Gregg Gelman.

Captain Liberty! Although I think the idea would work better as a single cam. And I’m not a multi-cam basher, I just think it would be hard to build a good looking bowling alley in a studio.
So it’s Friends meets early Happy Endings?
With bowling!
No, its a potential script written by Liz Vassey. No blank meets blank.
It’s EXACTLY Happy Endings with Bowling. Stop defending those recycled ideas. If networks wanted new ones they’d be looking to the web instead of the same 10 people who sell stuff every year.
“Hey, let’s take that one scene from the Break-Up and turn it into an entire show!”
Didn’t the couple breaking up and not giving up custody of their bowling league joke already happen in The Breakup with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn?
And my sitcom idea revolving around an inner city croquet league goes nowhere. I’ve had it with Hollywood
I liked HAPPY ENDINGS, too.
How many times did Kaplan watch The Break-Up before pitching that idea? The guy could sell Ice to Eskimos
Liz Vassey is NOT a comedy writer. This is ridiculous.
No idea about her writing ability, but she’s a good comedy actor. She was awesome on The Tick.
And she has good comedy chops. In addition to the Tick, she did several episodes on Two and a Half Men (with Sheen, not Kutcher). She held her own in each scene and just wasn’t set decoration for Lorre & company.
Read any of her pilots, and you’ll see Liz Vassey absolutely IS a comedy writer, and a really good one. I’ve been doing this a long time and she’s better than most people I know. Unfair as it may seem, there is a tiny subset of people who excel in more than one area, and holy crap is she one of them. Hell, I’m jealous of her for it, I can only imagine how people like you who don’t know her feel.
I heard good things about Four Play. Didn’t know there were others.
Hilarious that you would name yourself after a deceased lawyer to defend Vassey’s abilities.
“Hey, I bowl/parasail/play UNO/murder children with my friends. Wouldn’t that make a great TV show?!” – said every B list actor in Hollywood
WHAT ABOUT A SHOW ABOUT ASPIRING COMEDIANS? THEY’D ALL BE FUNNY RIGHT?
what is the over under on how many projects Aaron Kaplan sells this season?
Kaplan Kaplan he’s the man. If he can’t sell it no one can!
I like Krysten Ritter. She is proactive and talented, and seems to be chomping at the bit to get her career moving at the next level.
She’s not that great. Most of her scripts flopped or never came to pass. She is however a great actress and comedienne especially in CSI which was stupid enough to let her go. If you look at her credits she only was nominated for an Emmy as a child star. And I have read some of her pilots. I hope it plays opposite CSI so Moonpie, Meddlesome, and Donapew, can watch.
Liz is an amazing comic writer.
says jane doe! seriously, why is everyone so down on liz vassey. she’s a great actor, writer and human to boot. don’t we want good people like her succeeding in hollywood?
Aaron kaplan is the man!!! And Ritter is an incredible force of nature. Biz brains and Pretty too. The two of them seem like an unstoppable pair. I love how diversified ritter is. A great role model for girls.
Is this Krysten Ritter’s publicist? I love Krysten, I really do (going back to Gilmore Girls) but wow, this takes the award for being up someone’s ass.
