Global Female Condom Day - 16 September - is a day to take action and raise awareness of the female condom.
A highly effective method of protection against HIV and pregnancy, female condoms enable women to take control of their sexual health.
The female condom presents an opportunity that many women are missing, often because they are not widely stocked or marketed. A lack of information and guidance also means that women can find this method difficult to use.
Petitioning communities, policy makers and the media to ensure female condoms are visible in all communities is a major step towards higher uptake of female condoms globally.
Read our exclusive interview with Judy Silwana, from one of AVERT's partner organisations and leading advocate for female condoms in South Africa, below.
You will also find all you need to know about what a female condom is and how to use it on our female condom page.
