Question:“What is the point of large lists?” Lists like this have a "Refine list" feature (located in the right hand side of the page), which is a powerful filtering tool. With this tool one can exclude all of the films that one has already "rated"(seen), or that are in the >>>>> "watchlist", or exclude films that have been rated below lets say 6/10 stars, etc. With this list you get the ability to filter the list any way you like... to drill down on the exact content that you are looking for. All filters can be used at the same time, in any combination.

Avatar sucked. Shawskank actually belongs on this list http://www.imdb.com/list/BGMuJpWOnU4/
PLEASE READ BEFORE VIEWING:
This is NOT a list stating the order of greatest films.
This list is NOT based upon my personal opinions, it is a list that is accumulated from all films that have appeared on IMDb's Top 250, the order of the list is based upon the most recent highest rank of films. This is why The Dark Knight takes first place, as it is the most recent film to take place at #1. Films for example, Inception was ranked #3 and therefore is placed above The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (the previous placeholder for #3). High rated films that have never appeared on IMDb's Top 250 follow those that did in order of their rank.
Before commenting please note once again this is not based on my personal opinions, but the world's average opinions.

List of my favorite movies (was a hard job to sort them out a bit... first ~30 movies - difficult to say which I prefer, all are something really special). The list will keep updating - whenever a great movie is found.
I would love to get more suggestions for movies I haven't seen yet, and would somehow suit this list.

An experimental list of ALL of my film recommendations for ALL kind of people. Not only the greatest and not necessarily according my exact taste. Films you SHOULD see to learn, to get info to entertain yourself for have fun, for a common Wednesday afternoon or for a big family film season at Saturday evening.
Action, thriller, sci-fi, martial-arts, racing, war, super-hero, detective, adventure, psycho, freaking blood-rain movies list by me.
I love comedy. Some of the most amazing movies all-time have been made in this genre! My Top-100 movies all time is filled with this type of films. Mostly dark & crime comedy. A black comedy, or dark comedy, is a comic work that employs black humor, which, in its most basic definition, is humor that makes light of otherwise solemn subject matter, or gallows humor. Enjoy watching! This is just the first list (there are more lists to come!) Greetings, Ischa
A collection of the greatest films seen in my life, listed over the years of (2012-1902) Have excluded animated and documentary and short films... Your thoughts are welcome... I got tired of taking off other great movies so I have decided to enlarge the list...
The list was created based on IMDb ratings of 7 and over. I wanted to get an idea of what viewers thought were some of the best flicks out there.
Some I expected, for others I was surprised that they were rated so high, but I also found many gems I had not heard of before. And equally surprising were those flicks that didn't make the cut... but that's another story for another time.
Will definitely be re-watching many of the films that did show up on this list.
Movies are initially ordered randomly, but of course you can rearrange its viewing to your liking by date, alphabetically, genre...
Will be updating as info becomes available. Enjoy.
A kissingbudha original list.

This list is an ongoing work-in-progress. There are some stinkers in here, but they have their place - whether it's for nostalgic value or their contribution to a specific genre.
I believe films can be appreciated for their components as often as for the whole. Socially referential, emotionally relevant, politically poignant, individually ambiguous and culturally evocative... films express our identity, our values, our dreams and our doubts. Their cumulative art form succeeds in conveying what we find difficult to express.
Each entry is a film I've recommended to someone for one reason or another. Often, a single film for different reasons to different people. They're entered in no particular order, so sort alphabetically or chronologically for an easier time.

In no particular order this is my tribute to all the films that have made me think, laugh, gasp, cry, but most of all have stood out in my memory. There aren't many pre 1980 films on the list, which basically reflects that I grew up in the 80's, but overtime I hope to redeem myself and no doubt the list will change...

Already 125 years since the discovery of the first film in the year 1888 through Roundhay Garden Scene although this includes a short film but this is the first film ever made in the historical records, within a period of 125 years that too many events like the bitter sweet sorrow in the film industry for example, began to distrust of the people on the speak film when the silent film era was victorious until competition with television industry many movies economy made in a difficult or made during the war at that time not a few directors and producers who fear and choose how to safely make the war film genre to support the dictator on it, it's no wonder a lot of 40s films like propoganda nazi or communist soviet but there is also a brave fight like Charles Chaplin's satire on Adolf Hitler through the work of satire war comedy, The Great Dictator.
When the movie is more developed in the presence of staining not a few who are still wearing black and white pattern due to the expensive cost of color film when it is considered superior but not a few critics and laymen consider black and white film is better because it has been accustomed.
In 1941 the boy genius Orson Welles also appears with his movie titled Citizen Kane a film inspire the next independent film for more work, Orson many changes including the cinematographyor lighting a peak into the movie Citizen Kane was named best film of all time by critics and Any layman, I mention this as a Welles film independent film because this is the first film made by Welles although the cost is not cheap, well from the film Welles is a link that is not always a movie madeby the director not named at that time meant that ugly mean time, Welles was not named as it is now.
While in another country for example in France during the year 50 to 60 large-scale changes in the industry that the era before the end of the 40s too bored with the movie genre Kingdom or the theme of nobility, although there is also apraised Les Enfants Du Paradis such as society at that time was more interested in seeing a beautiful woman and the scene shooting from Hollywood movies than seeing a movie by them are considered boring but in the era of the late 50s to 60s showdirectors who make major changes to the French cinema, one of them is Jean-Luc Godard.
While in Japan although its history is long but that marked the era of Japanese film revival is a 50s era began in 1950 starting with success film Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa in 1950 and followed by other films including Ugetsu Monogatari from Kenji Mizoguchi and Shichinin No Samurai Masterpiece from Akira Kurosawa.
Talking about movies, films can also be called a culture, yes the film is the culture it describes our current situation through celluloid, arguably yes film is a time machine that connects us with eras cultures before, even my feel if the culture of a nation is good then it will produce a good film too, then the long history I will release the 250 best films of all time in my view, it might be controversial but I know my choice because I've thought about this carefully, this is the best movie of all time in my view.
And my messages do not look at movies from one or two sides but look at it from the whole, I am also here trying to straighten misplaced that old movie is bad and movie today was good
I gave an assessment of some aspects that influence, stories, plots, cinematography, shot as well as virtual creative, beauty, witty dialogue and acting that are right on target, not contrived as natural and film are real events, wardrobe and makeup are excellent, the setting and the proper lighting, editing is not flawed and imperfect, complex scripts yet easy to understand precisely the film does not deviate too far from a script already written, as well as a reference list of best film by critics and media assessment survey as a list list AFI or TSPDT more often a film into list best critics and survey various media it will be increasingly high rangking.
But from it all there's also which has special conditions such as Ladri Di Biciclette because I consider that film to be the most beautiful films ever made and The Tree Of Life which I consider that film is best film with best cinematography ever created or Shichinin No Samurai as the most influential film in the face of the Earth according to me personally, and Casablanca with the best film with best screenplay ever writen version Writers Guild of America, the privilege of each of those movies give assessment plus than other films.

Of course I have just explored a small piece of movieland, so all suggestions are very welcome. I'm first trying to expand this list to a top 100. It's not solid yet, so I first want to fix that and then expand it to a top 150, 200 and eventually a top 250.

Drug addiction, including alcoholism, is a topic often explored in film. Initially a taboo subject, has now become a global problem of gigantic proportions, which cannot be ignored. Have listed a number of films, which have addressed addiction from various angles. In whole or in part. Have included a number of documentaries (nos. 498-629). Please note: This is a researched list, containing some films not personally viewed, as of yet.
This is a list of my favorite films, not the greatest, but my favorite. The list is NOT in chronological order.
This list is subject to perpetual change, though the top spots are pretty concrete.
This is completely my opinion, i realize there may be some movies that are better, or should be placed higher based purely on their film making qualities, but i ranked them in the order of how much I personally like these movies. and since its only 40 movies i did have to leave some of them out. anyway: enjoy
This is a list of movies I really enjoyed in no specific order. Dunno how long it will get...
این فیلم به نظر من بسیار زیبا هستند

All the movies I rated 9/10. They are all very recommendable and could easily be 10s*.
There is something from just about every genre and decade in here - and imo all of these are gems I would watch again anytime!
*You might find some of my choices ridiculous - "Why is this Adam Sandler movie in here?!" or "Who wants to read subtitles for two hours?" ;D

movies dealing with absurdness, vacuum, ennui, nihilism, surrealism, seamed plot etc
The fact is I am quite happy in a movie, even a bad movie. Other people, so I have read, treasure memorable moments in their lives: the time one visited some new place, the summer night one met a lonely girl and achieved with her a sweet and natural relationship, as they say in books. I too once met a girl, but it is not much to remember. What I remember is the time David Hemming passes on the imaginary ball to a group of white faced clowns playing tennis in the park in Blow up, the time Woody Allen rushes to Mariel Hemingway and pleads her to stay with him and not go to London in the last scenes of Manhattan, the one where Virginia Cherrill upon touching Charlie Chaplin's hands recognizes him in City Lights, when Jean-Paul Belmondo runs down the glittering pavement after being shot in A bout de soufflé, when smile spreads on the face of Giulietta Masina on listening to the troops music even as the tears kept rolling down her cheek after realizing she has yet again been duped by her man in Fellini’s Nights of cabiria.
So I don't forget about the movies I have seen and I truly liked. Each one of them symbolizes something, things I have been going through, a mood I had for awhile..a smile I shared with people..thoughts and memories that never fade away. To be continued..

This is meant as a companion list to http://www.imdb.com/list/Et5yJlGgJDE/ These are suggestions for romance movies to watch not included on that list. Some of these may be a bit unconventional as love stories but then most movies have a romance element even if they aren't strictly a romance movie.

Truly entertaining, all time best movies, especially for those guys’s, who doesn’t like kids stuff! Guns, bullet, thrill, suspense, awesome cinematography, direction, strong story line and acting- made these movies different from others. Sequel of a movie and same subject’s movies are put together in the list. So no more chit-chat, just enjoy and feel free to put any comments regarding my list.
Some new movies are added, check it out. Thanks to all movie lovers, who finds time to check this list and those who shown appreciation by placing valuable comments.

IF you are in search of really stellar performances, creative imaginative storylines, wit and most importantly, entertainment....Check out my list of KILLER FILMS! Its quite difficult almost impossible to rank these as they all bring their individual uniqueness to the forefront. Order is totally subjective, with the first 100 being ones I felt were truly phenomenal, and my personal favourites, while the last 87 are just as entertaining, deserving a top contending spot in completing my theme of “killer films”. I’ve rated all films 8 and higher, taking into consideration; originality of the plot, character development and performance, cinematography, score and really just having that special edge. Recommendations welcome, but please make it count.
The following list consist of the DVDs & Blu-rays that I own. Please leave recommendations in the comments!

These films have a world of their own, some of the themes are not beautiful and I may not agree with them, but they are part of the world and life. This is why I consider them to be worth seeing.

these are films that me or my twin brother or both like. There's no order so you can do what you want with this list. When I bump into some film and realize that I've seen it, I add it on this list, so this list's gonna broaden infinitely.
some might be missing, so I'd be glad if you recall some of those grandiose films not listed here

The Computed Top200 Greatest Titles : The Films that the World Will Remember
To get a good feel of the List, PLEASE TRY THE INTENSE COUNTDOWN VIDEO OF THE TOP 25!! :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX9dur-gjzk
The number of lists that tell us which movies are the best are infinite. IMDb’s Top 250 is a respected one. But how about the Academy Awards? Don’t they tell us which movies are the best? Or does a movie need to be a blockbuster to be the best and should the wider audience have more to say about it?
So we got all of these criteria we’ve been looking at. One movie has an incredible amount of Academy Awards and the next is surprisingly high on IMDb’s list. But now we want the whole picture: which one is the Greatest when we cover them all!? In the end, more specific, the most magnificent list about this would be the one of The Big Names. The movies we all know to be the hugest, the legends, the ones that we will remember because they are in the halls of fame… you know, The Films that Wrote History !!
And for those who would like to know how this list has been built up (because, yes, it is really computed on basis of all this), here it is, the percentages of the final points: 36% International Box Office Gross; 22% IMDb Rating; 14% Academy Awards (6% Wins, 6% Nominations, 2% Best Picture Win); 6% Metacritic Rating; 11% Votes on RottenTomatoes and IMDb; 5% ICheckMovies toplists; 4% Most Memorable Scenes; 2% Best Soundtracks; and a bonus for the series: 3% Other High Grossing Parts; 1% Other Oscars Winning Parts.
NB. The Titles below may consist of multiple movies, like trilogies or even the series of James Bond or Star Wars. If so, then the movie in the list is the one that has contributed the most. Because I have given the series the advantage that, for each criterion, I’ve used the movie that scores the best on it.

Here's a listing of all the movies I've seen of which I've greatly enjoyed. Alphabetically listed.
- I have rated over 600 films but imo these deserved a 9 or 10 (/10).
- Only the films rated 10/10 are in order.
- A film will get a 10 if it dramatically affects my mood, through extreme laughter, tears or pure amazement by its awesomeness!
- My rule is to only ever have 10 films rated 10/10 at any one time, so these ratings may change the more I watch.

Here's the list of my favorite movies of all time from what I've seen, of course there could be a lot of movies out of it but I can only judge if I've seen them. It was difficult to sort them except for the number one and let's say also for the top 10.
This list contains, in my opinion, the best movies ranging from anime to war genres. Most are thought provoking and interesting, others are for pure entertainment.
My list is chiefly based on the incredible, breath taking, jaw dropping action scenes. The movies here are also man to man, hand to hand and at most gun to gun fight. My movies are all realistic not fantasy...

This is a list of my favourite movies of all time so far, please let me know if there are awesome movies that haven't made this list because I probably haven't seen them. I'm only 18 and have only started watching serious movies in 2011. My list is constantly changing and no movie is in a fixed position. Also I am very aware that there are Foreign movies out there. I am soon going to be watching a fare few foreign movies. Also I am also going to be watching some older movies from the 40's, 50's etc. Please leave a comment as i will eventually reply back to you. If you have a imdb list that you would like me to look at please feel free to post it as i will look at it eventually.
