EMMYS Q&A: Don Cheadle, Mayim Bialik, Bill Hader, Tony Hale

By THE DEADLINE TEAM | Tuesday August 20, 2013 @ 4:48pm PDT

AwardsLine Editor Christy Grosz, Managing Editor Anthony D’Alessandro and contributors Paul Brownfield and Thomas J. McLean assist with Deadline’s TV coverage.

Lead acting comedy series nominee Don Cheadle (House Of Lies) and supporting acting hopefuls Mayim Bialik (Big Bang Theory), Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) and Tony Hale (Veep) share thoughts on their characters, shows and nominations.

DON CHEADLE (House Of Lies, Showtime)

AwardsLine: You play a narcissist, Marty Kaan, who heads his own management consulting firm and is generally irresistible to women. That’s usually a recipe for playing a character over the top. And yet your performance is more subtly comedic.
Cheadle: Every season, I’ve been delightfully surprised by how far the writers and the creators want to push who he is and challenge the audience to still come along. For me, it’s still a discovery process. I don’t think he’s set, necessarily. I’m not ever thinking about playing it cool—he is a mess. People that have that much bravado, and enjoy lording it over, usually they’re scared of something. READ MORE »

PREVIOUS: Comedy About Big Business Nears Pilot Pickup At Showtime

LOS ANGELES, CA – (December 13, 2010) – Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2) has signed on to star in the pilot for HOUSE OF LIES, a half-hour, dark comedy created and written by Matthew Carnahan (Dirt) from the hit tell-all book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time by Martin Kihn, which will go into production in February 2011 in Los Angeles, CA. Jessica Borsicsky (Flash Forward) will serve as executive producer, and Emmy winner Stephen Hopkins (Californication, 24) will direct. “Don Cheadle is one of the great dramatic actors of our generation,” said SHOWTIME President of Entertainment David Nevins. “He also happens to be an extremely funny man. HOUSE OF LIES is the perfect show to take advantage of both sides of him. Honestly, I would have been happy just to get his autograph.”

HOUSE OF LIES is a subversive, scathing look at a self-loathing management consultant from a top-tier firm. Cheadle will star as Marty, a highly successful, cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want.
