In 2000 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1308 to limit the potentially damaging impact of HIV on the health of uniformed services personnel. In June 2011 the UN Security Council renewed its commitment to address the impact of AIDS on peace and security by unanimously adopting a new resolution 1983 that calls for increased efforts by UN Member States to address HIV in peacekeeping missions. It also calls for HIV prevention efforts among uniformed services to be aligned with efforts to end sexual violence in conflict and post-conflict settings.

Adopted by the Security Council on 7 June 2011, the resolution calls for increased efforts by UN Member States to address HIV in peacekeeping missions. It also calls for HIV prevention efforts among uniformed services to be aligned with efforts to end sexual violence in conflict and post-conflict settings. More
