Rain and thunderstorms will begin to increase in the East on Wednesday, as high pressure over the northeastern quadrant of the nation shifts eastward and a more humid airmass returns to the East. This moisture return will aid in active weather development as a cold front extending across the Midwest treks eastward through the day. Favorable environmental conditions will allow clusters of organized thunderstorms to turn severe. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development for areas near Lake Erie through parts of Indiana and Ohio into northern Kentucky with primary threats of damaging wind gusts and possibly hail. Meanwhile, the southern portion of this front will extend through Mid-Mississippi Valley and the Central Plains with additional showers and thunderstorms. Unsettled weather will also continue in parts of the Southern Plains as a lee trough of low pressure remains over western Texas. The Storm Prediction has issued a slight risk of severe storms from parts of southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma with primary threats of damaging wind gusts and hail.

Elsewhere, monsoonal moisture will kick up afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms in areas of the Four Corners.
