Job Title: Front-End Developer
Location: San Francsico, CA
Position Type: Full-Time

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Software Development Engineer will focus primarily on front-end technology. He/she will contribute to the continued success and growth of the website and apps by writing software for new products and by expanding upon code from existing products. He/She will take shared ownership of projects, including planning, code organization, implementation, data flow, testing, launching, and post-launch changes. In addition, the SD engineer will share the responsibility of being periodically on-call to resolve technical issues that may come up.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Write code for new and existing products (70-80%)
    • Develop efficient, reusable, reliable, and scalable software for the wunderground.com website and apps. Create innovative applications that combine many branches of weather data in visual ways
    • Work with Designers, UX/UI experts and other developers in agile teams to rapidly develop superior products
    • Create JavaScript and AJAX functionality for front-end pages that makes interfaces dynamic and interactive yet intuitive and simple to use
    • Hand coding semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to get from mock-up to standards compliant product
    • Build responsive site applications with a focus on mobile first
  2. On-call (5-10%)
    • Respond to unexpected technical issues during rotating 72-hour on-call shifts
    • Debug and resolve problems such as bugs in code, data not being updated, server drives filling up, and hardware failure
  3. Collaborate with other teams in the company (10-15%)
    • Work between agile teams to iterate on existing products and share new ideas

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Skills, knowledge and abilities
    • Expert with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
    • jQuery or similar library experience
    • Experience implementing Responsive web designs using CSS frameworks
    • UNIX/Linux environment
    • Apache, MySQL, and other open-source packages
    • Strong coding skills in commonly used languages such as C/C++
    • Understanding of code scaling and efficiency
  2. Experience
    • 3+ years experience working through front-end development challenges
  3. Preferred educational level
    • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field

Job Title: Interactive Graphic Designer
Location: San Francsico, CA
Position Type: Contract

GENERAL SUMMARY:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Interactive Graphic Designer to work in our fast-paced environment and generate a wide array of digital graphic elements. This position will support the Lead Graphic Designer in maintaining and enhancing the visual brand of Weather Underground as it appears across our web sites, mobile apps and emerging media platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create web page mock-ups / wireframes for new content pages for wunderground.com
  • Design UI concepts and final graphic assets for mobile / tablet / emerging digital media platforms
  • Follow existing design guidelines and help establish new ones
  • Create interactive digital advertising banners for internal and external ad campaigns
  • Create HTML emails for e-marketing campaigns

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Skills, knowledge and abilities
    • Deep understanding of fundamental UI web design principals
    • Experience designing for a variety of digital media platforms including traditional web and mobile interfaces
    • Excellent attention to detail and organization in all aspects of work
    • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision; quick turn arounds
    • Motivated, self-starter with the desire to work collaboratively
    • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
    • Proficiency in HTML, Dreamweaver and CSS
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  2. Preferred Skills
    • Creating and editing Flash files
    • UNIX experience
    • Actionscript
    • Understanding of HTML5
    • Mobile App development
    • Knowledge and understanding of print production
  3. Experience
    • 1 - 3 years of UI design experience
  4. Preferred educational level
    • BA in Graphic Design / CS or related discipline
