back to top HIV and AIDS Care
Care is an integral part of the needs of a person living with HIV and takes many forms. Family and friends, home-based care workers and volunteers are often the main care providers who, in addition to carrying out practical tasks such as supporting adherence to treatment, also address a person’s social, psychological and emotional needs.
Much of HIV and AIDS-related care takes place in the home. This can be more flexible and nurturing than it would be in a health facility. Costs incurred for the person living with HIV in need of care can be reduced, whilst home-based care can act as a solution to a lack of hospital space and health-care worker capacity.
This page leads to information about HIV/AIDS-related pain and care. Information about how pain can be lessened through palliative, supportive and home-based care, and why pain relief remains inaccessible for too many people with HIV is also available.
