Paediatric HIV care and treatment Toolkit launched at PATA Summit

Feedback from teams who attended a masterclass on using the toolkit was positive. Teams lauded the toolkit, saying it should become the new "Standard of Care" in Africa.

PATA-Kiwoko Local forum: talk and play for improving communication

Kiwoko Hospital, Uganda co-hosted a local PATA forum from 7-9 August 2011. It brought together multi-sectoral teams from 12 organisations in the area to assist the teams in developing skills in communicating with caregivers and children as well as improve linkages between local partners. PATA-Vihiga forum: journeys to disclosure

On 15-16 August 2011, PATA and Vihiga co hosted a local forum on disclosure to children. Research has indicated that this remains one of the most challenging issues for families and health care providers. However a well handled disclosure process is shown to lead to better adherence patterns, clinical outcomes and psychological adjustments. Five treatment teams from the Vihiga District met to improve their skills in disclosure to children

"Be bold, be brave": PATA at the SA Aids Conference

The 2011 South African Aids conference was held in Durban from 7-10 June 2011. Taru Jaroszynski from PATA presented the successes and challenges of the Expert Patient Programme funded by One to One Children's Fund in a session called "Innovative models for delivering health services". Read more

Many children treated with anti-retroviral drugs have done very well and are now growing into adolescence. This success presents new problems as children grow into adolescence. Read more

What goals have the East African PATA teams set for 2010/2011?

Every year at the PATA forum, teams set themselves tasks for the year ahead. This year many teams have set themselves tasks relating to the conference themes of caring for the very young infant with HIV and Nutrition. Read more
