back to top HIV and AIDS in Asia & Europe
Asia and Europe account for around 7.1 million people living with HIV.1 To better understand the variations within these continents the information covered here has been separated into four main regions: Western and Central Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, East Asia, South and South-east Asia. Countries that have particularly severe or complex epidemics are covered in more detail.
Explore the HIV/AIDS situation in China, where HIV is largely concentrated among the Guangxi, Sichuan and Xinjiang provinces; HIV infected blood, injecting drug use and sex work are the major drivers of HIV in the country. The diverse epidemic in India is covered in two pages that focus on different affected groups and the Indian response state by state.
The HIV/AIDS situation in Western and Central Europe is less severe compared to that in Asia, but is nonetheless a changing epidemic. Detailed historical and current accounts of HIV and AIDS in the UK, as well as signposting to UK HIV help and advice services are also available below.
