LONDON, July 17 (UPI) -- The body of British actor Paul Bhattacharjee, who had been missing for more than a week, has been found, Scotland Yard said Wednesday.

Police said the death is being treated as suspicious, the Telegraph News reported.

Bhattacharjee, 53, was last seen July 10 leaving rehearsals for a new play at the Royal Court Theatre in Chelsea, west London, the report said. He later texted his girlfriend but had not been heard from since, the BBC reported, adding his disappearance is considered out of character.

Scotland Yard was contacted by officers in Sussex Wednesday morning and told the body of a man matching Bhattacharjee's description had been found July 12 near cliffs at Splash Point in Seaford, East Sussex.

The report said Bhattacharjee, from Redbridge, northeast London, was formally identified and his next of kin have been informed.

The actor has appeared in TV shows such as "Eastenders," "The Bill" and "MI-5," as well as the films "Casino Royale," "Dirty Pretty Things" and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."
