NEW YORK, July 21 (UPI) -- "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson married his longtime partner Justin Mikita in New York, Ferguson's representative said.

Ferguson, 37, plays lawyer Mitchell Pritchett on the ABC show, and Mikita, 27, is a lawyer.

The pair became engaged last year while vacationing in Mexico.

People said that playwright and screenwriter Tony Kushner officiated the ceremony.

Although the couple lives in California, they planned to get married in New York before Proposition 8 was deemed unconstitutional.

In lieu of wedding gifts, the couple asked that guests donate to Tie The Knot, a marriage quality charity, People
