At ESPN, our reputation and credibility with viewers, readers and listeners are of paramount concern. While our goal is always to be accurate and fair, occasionally we will present an erroneous assertion of fact. Significant errors of fact will be corrected in a clear and timely manner, with appropriate prominence.

Correctable errors involve a significant factual mistake, or materially change the implication or connotation of the reporting. This policy is not intended to cover inconsequential factual errors, such as minor statistical mistakes, inadvertent and immaterial misidentifications, minor inaccuracies in a developing story or font errors that don't impair the viewers' understanding of a story.

Each unit at ESPN -- such as Studio, Remote, Magazine, Radio, ESPN.com and other networks -- will implement this policy in a manner applicable to its medium. Corrections of significant factual errors across all media, as warranted, will be posted on ESPN.com's corrections page for a period of time.

ESPN produces 24/7 programming and services, across many platforms and under fierce deadline pressures. Mistakes are inevitable. A meaningful policy for correcting significant errors will engender trust with viewers, listeners and readers. ESPN's willingness to correct mistakes, as necessary, is directly proportional to our credibility with our audiences. ESPN will regularly review and amend the policy as warranted.

Football powers to split?

A July 22 story on ESPN.com mischaracterized how the NCAA handles votes on Division I athletics. Division I is governed by a board of directors, made up of 18 school presidents -- one from every FBS conference and eight other seats that rotate from the remaining 22 Division I conferences. For football, FBS teams vote on FBS issues and FCS teams vote on FCS issues. The story has been updated. Updated story

NFL player arrests

A June 26 report on ESPN's SportsCenter verbally mentioned an incorrect number of NFL players who have been arrested since the Super Bowl and incorrectly attributed the information. The number of players arrested is 29, and the informatoin is from the U-T San Diego database. The information was also briefly used on ESPN.com, but was removed and the video clip was updated.

LeBron James foul

A May 28 ESPN.com story grading the Miami Heat had the incorrect name of the official who made the sixth foul call on LeBron James in that night's game against Indiana. Updated story

Vijay Singh lawsuit

A May 8 ESPN.com story about Vijay Singh suing the PGA Tour incorrectly noted what the UCLA Olympic Analytical Lab tested. The lab tested a bottle of deer antler spray provided by Singh. A urine test from Singh was tested and came back negative for any banned substances, according to a lawsuit filed by Singh's attorneys. Updated story

Junior Etou age

A May 1 ESPN.com story about Junior Etou going to Rutgers incorrectly attributed information about Etou's paperwork and passport that says he was born in 1994. That information was from the Washington Post, which cited Bishop O'Connell coach Joe Wooten as the source of its information. In addition, Etou is from the Republic of Congo. Updated story

Harper draft evaluation

An April 30 ESPN.com NFL draft story incorrectly characterized why the Seattle Seahawks had concerns about draft pick Chris Harper. The evaluation has been adjusted to reflect the correct information. Updated story

Tiger Woods ad by Nike

In a March 29 ESPN.com story about Nike's Tiger Woods ad, the name of the ad agency producing the ad was incorrect. The reference has been removed. Updated story

Louisville's second-round opponent

A March 17 ESPN.com story about the NCAA men's tournament incorrectly reported the teams Louisville could play in the second round. The Cardinals could play either Liberty or North Carolina A&T.; Updated story

Lebanon soccer

A Feb. 27 story on ESPNFC.com about possible match fixing by players and club officials in Lebanon failed to prominently provide proper attribution. The story should have been attributed to The Daily Star Lebanon. Updated story

Newtown girls' basketball

A Feb. 20 espnW.com story about the Newtown High School girls' basketball team incorrectly stated how the team finished its season. The team qualified for the state playoffs, but lost in the opening round. Updated story

Yarmulkes patent

A Jan. 25 ESPN.com Playbook story about officially licensed yarmulkes incorrectly said which company has a patented clip that holds the yarmulke in place. That patent is owned by Klipped Kippahs. Updated story

Darrell Wallace Jr.

A Feb. 8 ESPN.com story about Darrell Wallace Jr. incorrectly reported the number of black drivers with full-time rides on a NASCAR national series. Wallace is the fourth black driver to have a full-time ride. Updated story

Vincent role

A Feb. 7 ESPN.com story about a source telling ESPN that Troy Vincent is being promoted to an NFL senior vice president incorrectly stated who the job was with. Vincent works for the NFL. Updated story

Bosch photo

In a Jan. 26 ESPN.com story about Major League Baseball's investigation of performance enhancing drugs in South Florida, an incorrect photo of Anthony Bosch was used. The photo had been used in other stories as well, dating back to 2009. It has been removed. Updated story

Australian Open Women's Final

During Saturday's encore presentation of the Australian Open Women's Tennis Championship, ESPN TV's Bottom Line mistakenly left the final score on-air during the match. ESPN apologizes for the error, and regrets the impact on fans.

Title game for Te'o

Due to a transcription error, how Manti Te'o felt he played in the BCS title game was misreprsented in an earlier version of this story. Te'o said he was not affected by the story surrounding a girlfriend hoax during the game.
