  • Good story....but...

I found the cruelty scenes involving the elephant hard to watch.Of course I know no animals were hurt in the making of this film, but watching such graphic scenes of animal cruelty is not something I am used it and it left me unsettled. Chemistry between Rpatz and Reece not very convincing but the story was strong enough to deliver a good film.

Visually stunning with enough story line. The animals were stunning and the set very believable. In an age of special effects and violence it was nice to have a happy ending.

  • The Waltons meet Lassie

    Rated - 2.0 stars

For the first ten minutes of this film I thought it had real promise until it decended into a cross between an episode of the Waltons and Lassie Come home, only with Lassie being replaced by Rosie the elephant. The story line is beyond predictable - no one could possibly fail to forecast excactly the fate that would befall the chief evil guy half way through. Pity with a boldler and less Disneyesque director this could have been a reasonably enjoyable tale of life under the big top. Sadly with Francis Lawrence in charge it descends into an almost comical piece with the goodies and the baddies (boo, hiss) are so clearly defined.

This is a nice little love story set amidst an ailing circus troup during the prohibition~ not a deep tale but good enough to keep you watching with the brooding vet Pattinson and the very blonde Witherspoon falling in love mid act. Oh and theres an elephant that helps too..

  • Relentlessly dull

In a word - boring. Had I been watching this on my own I probably would have turned it off or spent the whole time on my ipad. My friend however enjoyed it and called it 'life affirming'! I found lots of the filming to be very dark so quite difficult to watch some of the scenes. I also didn't like the animal cruelty in it. But I guess it shows part of the reason why we don't really have old fashioned circus's anymore. For me not enough happened and it was just the usual and predictable love story.

  • A beautiful film.

This beautiful film full of enchantment and wonder will delight people of all ages. Although some of the animal cruelty scenes are rather horrific, this story fits together to make an awe-inspiring yet sad film. You will not be happy, you will not be amazed, you will be spell bound and struck dumb by it's beauty. I could watch this film again and again and despite it being only 3 and a half stars, it will always be five to me. Most definitely one of my favorite movies. Also (one for the girls) Robert Pattinson looks ten times better without his vampire make up!
