Google Wants To Make Streaming Video More Like Regular TV: WSJ

Google has approached several large media companies in order to license TV shows for a new online streaming service it plans to launch, unnamed sources told The Wall Street Journal in a report on Tuesday.

The newspaper's report indicated that the service would share a closer resemblance to cable TV than streaming services like Hulu or Netfix, allowing customers to flip through channels online just as they would on cable. The move would be a potential boon to the company's struggling Google TV service. It's already been confirmed that Intel and Apple are working on similar services.

This is a developing story. »

You may not be surprised, but this was not the first time Malkoff was transported around NYC with unorthodox assistance. »

Korn Grows Corn

Korn is living up to its name, as the rockers try their hand at agriculture while they work on their new album.

According to TMZ, the band is growing corn -- and other vegetables -- in a micro-indoor farm inside their studio. "Turns out the guys got real health conscious while recording their new album," the celebrity website writes.

Go to TMZ.com to see a photo of the band's hydroponic farm.

"The Paradigm Shift," which is scheduled for release on Oct. 1, will see the return of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who left the band eight years ago. Welch told Rolling Stone earlier this month that the new album will be reminiscent of the Korn of yesteryear, but with a "twist."

"I'm a metalhead. I love rock music, and I came here just wanting to do the old Korn vibe, but with a new twist," he said. "The end product »

One Direction Releases Sneak Peek Of 'Best Song Ever' Music Video

For Directioners impatiently counting down the days (six, to be exact) until 1D releases their upcoming single, "Best Song Ever," the group released a trailer for the music video to make the wait a little less painful -- and we have to say, one of the boys is looking very different.

Fans first got a glimpse of the video when the boys tweeted a hilarious -- er, slightly creepy -- photo of Niall transformed as a balding man. Apparently, the band will be unveiling a new "character" leading up to when the video drops.

For now, you can catch a sneak peek of what's to come in their 20-second trailer. The short video pans to the famous "Hollywood" sign in Los Angeles, but this time, it looks a little different. As usual, viewers can catch moments of the band members acting silly, in addition to being introduced to "Harvey the studio executive" (oh hey, »

'Glee Project' Canceled

"The Glee Project" has been canceled.

Oxygen decided not to order a third season of the reality competition spinoff series, in which its champion earns an arc on Fox's "Glee."

“’The Glee Project’ will not be returning to Oxygen, but we are extremely proud of this series which launched the careers of several talented individuals," a spokesperson said. "The show had so much heart and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling.”

Although the series had ties to Fox's "Glee," with many of the show's stars serving as mentors on "The Glee Project," a source close to the situation notes that Oxygen's decision was not influenced by the recent death of the show's star Cory Monteith.

"Despite a strong desire internally to bring the reality competition series back, the late renewal for Fox's 'Glee' made it too »

No Stevie Wonder For You, Florida

New York — Stevie Wonder says he won't perform in Florida and other states with a "stand your ground" law.

In a video posted on YouTube, the 63-year-old singer said at a concert in Quebec City, Canada, on Sunday "that until the `stand your ground' law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again."

Wonder added: "Wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world."

The "stand your ground" law allows people to use deadly force if they believe their life is in danger.

George Zimmerman shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin during a February 2012 confrontation in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman said he fired his gun in self-defense.

A six-member jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges on Saturday.

Wonder's representative said the singer had no further comment. »

Beloved Band Returns After 17 Years

Take a breath that's true: Beloved alternative group Mazzy Star is back with a new album, the band's first since "Among My Swan" in 1996.

Called "Seasons Of Your Day," the new Mazzy Star record will be out on Sept. 24. To celebrate the announcement, Mazzy Star released a new song. The soulful track, "California," can be found above. (Spin compared the song to Led Zeppelin's "Going to California," which sounds just about right.)

Mazzy Star (made up of David Roback and Hope Sandoval) shot to fame in 1994 with the song "Fade Into You." The track peaked at 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and hit the top five on the magazine's Modern Rock chart.

Talk of a new Mazzy Star record has circulated since 2009. Sandoval, the lead singer, teased the new material in an interview that year with Rolling Stone, but cautioned that it wasn't a done deal. "It's true we're still together. »

Hollywood After Aurora Murders: 'They Don't Want To Deal With It'

New York — It was a year ago this week that the sickening sound of gunfire rang out at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo. The mass shooting reverberated painfully in Hollywood, and how could it not? It happened at the movies.

Five months later, the horrific massacre of first-graders at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., launched yet more reflection – about gun control, certainly, but also about entertainment content, particularly violent video games said to be favored by the killer.

And yet, in the year since Aurora, seemingly little has overtly changed in the area of violence in entertainment, save the notable musings of actor Jim Carrey, who tweeted misgivings about his latest film, "Kick-Ass 2," after Newtown: "Now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence," he wrote.

And some ask: If nothing changes now, will it ever?

On an upcoming episode of VH1's "Miss U Much," Voorhies opened up about her love of painting, which she's been doing for three years.

"I was good right off the bat. The first one is of a tree, and it's beautiful!" she says in the clip above, obtained by Entertainment Tonight. "I just got inspired right away."

So where can you procure one of Voorhies' paintings? Nowhere, because she "keeps them all to [her]self." But if you're looking to see her whip out her acting skills again, she has another project in the works.

They're Back

Moscow -- Russian provocateurs Pussy Riot are back in action, releasing a new music video nearly a year after three members went to prison for a prank denouncing Vladimir Putin.

The video shows band members in trademark bright-colored ski masks and short skirts, cavorting and shrieking atop an oil rig. Backed by hectic guitar and a drum fusillade, they liken the Russian president to an Iranian ayatollah.

As they pour oil on a large photo of Igor Sechin, chairman of state oil giant Rosneft, they shout "Homophobic reptile – get out of history."

One member of the collective, who gave only her stage name of Grelka, said after the video's Tuesday release that "the main message is that Putin has spread the country's wealth among his friends."

Three members were sentenced to two years for an anti-Putin "punk prayer" in Moscow's main cathedral. One was later released on probation.

Watch: LL Weighs In On Jay-z's 'New Rules'

Through the years LL Cool J has been vocal in expressing his thoughts on Jay-z, to an extent where the Queens legend criticized the hip hop mogul’s business dealings during his tenure as Def Jam president.

Since then, the New York titans have gone their separate ways, and both managed to release new projects this year, “Authentic” and “Magna Carta Holy Grail.”

While LL feels Hov’s much publicized Samsung deal is a “a great move for the RIAA [Recording Industry Association of America],” he has a different perspective surrounding all of the new sales rules hoopla.

“It’s not anything different,” he admitted during an interview with Diddy’s Revolt TV. “If Walmart buys a million records, they bought it. The difference is, I don’t know, if I go sell 5 million records to Bill Gates or 10 million records to Bill Gates I guess I’m diamond. I mean, I may not have »
