LISTSERV®

Listserv is a commercial mailing list management system that allows you to subscribe to or create, manage, and control an electronic mailing list.

Mailing Lists are email-based and can function as announce only, moderated, or as a simple discussion list. Each member that is subscribed to a particular mailing list receives a copy of every message sent to that list via E-mail.

Latest News: Personal Names fixed

Dear listserv users,
Due to an error in the listserv main database, many email addresses had incorrect personal names associated with them. We have identified those addresses and corrected the problem. You may receive a message from listserv that looks like this:

-----
Command executed under your origin at the behest of listhlp@BUFFALO.EDU:

> register Firstname Lastname

Thank you for registering. This server will now refer to you as "Firstname Lastname". You can update your registration at any time by sending a new REGISTER command.
-----

This is normal and is the expected notification for the correction of the problem.

Other News: Attention UBmail users!

It has come to our attention that a bug in the UBmail software is preventing confirmation links from being displayed in messages from listserv.

Typically, a confirmation link is supplied for several different reasons:

  1. For a subscriber to confirm a message they sent to a list that requires confirmation
  2. For a list owner to approve a message sent to a moderated list
  3. To confirm user actions, such as registering a new password

In UBmail, the recipient receives the message with instructions to confirm by clicking on a link below, however no link is displayed.

The present workaround is to read the message in another Email program that correctly displays the link, such as Outlook or Thunderbird.
