Looking for an Informatics Career in Public Health?

I am interested in applying computer and information science to help solve public health problems.

Is there a field in public health that lets me do this?

Yes, there is!

Public health informatics is the systematic application of information and computer science and technology to public health practice, research, and learning.

Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program

The Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) is a 2-year applied training fellowship for professionals with a master's or higher degree. We train professionals to apply principles of public health informatics to the practice of public health.

PHIFP is now a Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship

Through a CDC and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) collaboration, PHIFP is the first public health fellowship program designated as a DOL Registered Apprenticeship. This designation certifies CDC’s PHIFP as meeting DOL Registered Apprenticeship training and practice standards. Graduates will earn a national-recognized DOL certificate in addition to their CDC certificate.
