Country StyleCover a workbench or tabletop with plastic wrap to protect it and provide a smooth surface for your work. Secure it with adhesive tape.
Roll out the modelling clay on the plastic wrap to around 3mm thick, using a rolling pin. The thickness of the clay should be the desired thickness of your plate.
Using a plate or bowl of a similar size as a guide, cut away the edges of the clay with a sharp knife. Try not to cut through the plastic wrap.
Position lace pieces on the surface of the clay and gently press the lace down to create an imprint.
Remove the lace, curve the edges of the clay into a plate or bowl shape, then leave to dry for 1-2 days.
Tip Experiment with different shapes and sizes of plate, different thicknesses of clay and different textures of lace. If you like the look, leave the lace embedded in the clay.
* These lacy platters are for display only: please don’t eat or drink fromthem—the clay, even when dry, is porous.
