Continuing Membership

To remain a member in good standing, each Honors College student is expected to
  1. Establish a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 during the freshman year and maintain a GPA of at least 3.20 until graduation,
  2. Submit a properly approved Academic Progress Plan annually, and
  3. Pursue an enriched program of study including Honors-caliber courses of the type described in "Honors Opportunities."

General Education

Honors College members are expected to complete an enriched program of study in general education. They may select from hundreds of courses to fill requirements in writing, arts and humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.

For details of the Honors College general education requirement, see http://www.honorscollege.msu.edu/GenEd.html and the Honors College Handbook.

Honors Thesis

In some departments, Honors College members are required to complete an Honors thesis or Honors senior project. This requirement varies by department of the student's major, however, and is not a requirement for all Honors College members.

Honors Work in the Major

In some departments, Honors College members are required to complete a specified amount of Honors work in the major. This requirement varies by department and is not a requirement for all Honors College members.

Graduation

To graduate as a member of the Honors College, a student must complete at least eight Honors-caliber courses and be a member in good standing at the time of graduation. For students completing a second degree, which includes completing an additional 30 credits beyond those required for the first degree, two additional Honors-caliber courses are required for the second Honors degree.
