CW’s Fall Premiere Dates: Network To Roll Out Lineup October 7, ‘Originals’ Held Back

7 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Premiere week on the CW starts October 7, two weeks behind the official broadcast premiere week. As it did last year, the CW is holding back its fall launch to avoid the onslaught of series and season debuts. The bulk of the network’s lineup will start the week of October 7. The big exception is the Tuesday duo of The Originals and Supernatural. The network is giving them an extra week because of The Originals’ tall order of going against ABC’s Marvel’s Agents Of Shield, which is being supported by a monster promo campaign. Last to get on the air is the second season of The Carrie Diaries, which will bow October 25, joining the conclusion of the summer cycle of America’s Next Top Model on Fridays. Here are the CW’s fall premiere dates: 2013 Fall Premiere Dates: Monday, October 7 8:00-9:00 Pm Hart Of Dixie (Season Premiere »

'Downton Abbey' Season 4 adds Paul Giamatti to the finale

12 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

A new U.S. actor has been added to the cast of "Downton Abbey" Season 4 -- albeit for only one episode -- but viewers will finally get a glimpse at Lady Cora's (Elizabeth McGovern) stateside brother, Harold, when Paul Giamatti shows up in the Season 4 finale with Shirley MacLaine, when she reprises her role as Cora's mother, Martha Levinson.

PBS has announced (as first reported by TV Line) that Giamatti will appear as Cora's "maverick, playboy brother" Harold, who comes to Downton with his "free-spirit" ways and both he and Martha "upset the Grantham's apple cart."

We aren't sure the first two words that come to mind when thinking of Paul Giamatti are "maverick playboy," but he's a terrific actor and it should be a lot of fun.

"Downton Abbey" premieres in the U.K. in September and in the U.S. Jan. 5, 2014. »

'Devious Maids' ratings not so bueno

8 hours ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

One thing about Lifetime’s Devious Maids that wasn’t stereotypical: The ratings.

The new drama series from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry got off to a somewhat sluggish start on Sunday night, delivering 2 million viewers for its premiere episode. By comparison, other Lifetime dramas such as Drop Dead Diva, The Client List and Army Wives have pulled numbers closer to the 3 million mark (Client and Drop Dead both had 2.8 million for their premieres).

The show follows the lives of four Latina maids working amongst the rich and crazy in SoCal. Critics have given the show mixed-to-positive reviews. Here’s »

Walk of Fame Honoree Jerry Bruckheimer Is That Rare Species: The Branded Producer

just now | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

That Jerry Bruckheimer is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is extraordinary — mostly because he doesn’t already have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“They’ve been neglecting me for years, what can I say?” quips the producer of “Top Gun,” “The Pirates of the Caribbean” movies and such Emmy-monopolizing series as “The Amazing Race.” “Actually, it had been offered before and we wanted to wait for the right time, and “The Lone Ranger” is the right time.”

The fact that Bruckheimer would synchronize both his kemo sabe moment with postcard Hollywood and a plug for his latest project, which stars Armie Hammer in the title role and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto, reveals the kind of promotional instinct that has governed his four-decade career in film and television, and made him that rare animal: the branded producer.

There have been others, of course: David O. Selznick. »

[Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Monday's series premiere of Under the Dome as well as the Stephen King novel upon which the series is based. Read at your own risk.]

CBS' new summer series Under the Dome kicked off Monday night with quite the bang after a dome mysteriously trapped the residents of quaint Chester's Mill within the town lines, cutting them off from the rest of the world. (And cutting a cow in half in the process. Gross.)

How will CBS' Under the Dome differ from Stephen King's novel?

Unfortunately...

Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, the summer drama takes place in Chester’s Mill, a sleepy rural town that is suddenly encompassed by a gigantic, transparent dome. There’s no explanation for the new enclosure, but it’s causing disaster left and right — including a plane crash that leaves no survivors.

'The Bachelorette' episode 5: 'Where are we gettin' drunk?'

1 hour ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I don’t know about you, rose lovers, but my answer to that question is “right here on my couch.” Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen tonight’s episode yet, but that was one hell of a Reject Limo interview, wasn’t it? Not only was I pleasantly surprised by the results of the majorly awkward two-on-one date, but it was also heartening to see one of the nicest guys there (Chris) start to overtake Brooks as the front-runner. Stay tuned for my full recap later tonight, and in the meantime express your joy (or, if for some reason »

CBS Re-Piloting ‘The McCarthys’ As Multi-Camera Comedy

2 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

CBS has ordered a new pilot for Irish-American family comedy The McCarthys, which will be converted from a single-camera to multi-camera. Talks are underway with cast members about joining the new pilot. Produced by Sony TV and Will Gluck’s Olive Bridge Entertainment, The McCarthys revolves around a big Irish Catholic, sports-crazed Boston clan and the gay son whose greatest sin is not his sexuality but his desire to spend less time with his family. The project, written/co-executive produced by Brian Gallivan, was among the pilots in serious consideration for a series pickup at CBS this season, said to be one of the strongest on the comedy side at the network in years. Related: Brian Gallivan In Overall Deal With Sony TV CBS already picked up more new comedy series for next season than it has in more than two decades, six. In addition to The McCarthys, which is getting another shot, »

A Final Appraisal Of The Black Presence On 'Mad Men' Season 6

2 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Mad Men, that often vague, always compelling opus on the American Dream, has over the years become one of the most lauded shows in a television renaissance of quality, complex storytelling. Alongside programs like Breaking Bad and Homeland, it’s proven (if there was any doubt before) that TV entertainment doesn’t have to be mindless - it can also be an artform. But despite all its critical praise, despite the fifteen Emmys, four Golden Globes, and legions of fans who over-analyze and over-investigate the minutiae of the Mad Men universe, there’s often been the complaint that has arisen season after season: Where are the black characters? It’s a valid question, since the show takes place during the days of the height of the Civil Rights movement in America, a time when people of color were fighting more than ever before for equality and representation. Amy Winehouse's older brother Alex says the late British singer died of an eating disorder, not from years of drug and alcohol abuse.

"She suffered from bulimia very badly. That's not, like, a revelation — you knew just by looking at her," Alex Winehouse told the UK's Guardian. "She would have died eventually, the way she was going, but what really killed her was the bulimia."

Bruckheimer Brings Big Pic Vision to Small Screen

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Leslie Moonves knew in 2000 that CBS wasn’t where he wanted it to be, but he had a good idea of how he could turn his network around. And those plans included a liberal dose of successful filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer.

Moonves says Bruckheimer was “unbelievably creative and his movies were spectacular.” But there was more that was attracting Moonves’ attention.

“He had his finger on the pulse of what America really wanted to see,” says Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corp. “He has a real American sensibility, a populist sensibility. I always wanted to convert him to a TV guy because I felt the sky’s the limit for him. And he bore that out pretty well.”

Before Bruckheimer, CBS was experiencing a slump and became associated with an aging audience. Due in part to Bruckheimer bringing two projects to the network — “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “The Amazing Race »
