NICE finds advanced ovarian cancer treatment too expensive with not enough benefit
NICE has advised the NHS against funding the drug bevacizumab (Avastin, manufactured by Roche) for advanced ovarian cancer. In two separate pieces of final guidance published for the health service, NICE concludes that funding the treatment on the NHS does not represent the best use of taxpayers? money.

NICE has today published its updated clinical guideline on assessing and managing children under the age of 5 years with fever. In his keynote speech this morning at the NICE annual conference 2013, Lord Howe, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Quality at the Department of Health, announced that NICE, working with experts from Public Health England, will develop new quality standards as part of a public health quality standard programme.

NICE publishes final draft recommendations for a new treatment for enlarged spleen in adults with a rare blood cancer
NICE has published final draft guidance not recommending ruxolitinib (Jakavi, Novartis), for the treatment of disease-related splenomegaly (enlarged spleen) or its symptoms in adults with primary myelofibrosis, or post polycythaemia vera myelofibrosis or post essential thrombocythaemia myelofibrosis.
