The Nokia Lumia 928 hasn't yet been formally announced, but the company already has begun advertising it.

Nokia teases new Lumia smartphone in magazine ad

Nokia is set to announce a new smartphone next week, but it's already begun teasing the device in magazine and alleged billboard advertisements.

Last month, the Finnish phone maker sent out invitations for a May 14 event in London where it promised to reveal "what's next" for the company. That set off speculation about what the company might reveal, and many guessed it could be the Lumia 928, a version of its flagship smartphone built for Verizon that could feature one of the most advanced cameras available on smartphones.

And now, it seems those users might be right.

An ad for what it says is "the newest Lumia" appears in the latest issue of Vanity Fair. The ad doesn't reveal too much about the device, but it shows a black smartphone in camera mode taking a high-quality picture. The ad also includes text saying "Capture the highlights." A high-resolution version of the ad was also later spotted on the Internet on Nokia's website.

Hedge fund manager David Einhorn says he's happy with Apple's plans to buy back more of its stock and increase its dividends.

Rebel shareholder buying more Apple stock following buyback plans

Just months after leading a shareholder revolt against Apple, hedge fund manager David Einhorn revealed on Tuesday that he's been buying more stock in the company.

In a conference call with investors of Greenlight Capital, Einhorn confirmed that the firm had increased its stake in Apple, though he did not reveal by how much, according to Reuters.

Einhorn called Apple's plan to issue $17 billion in bonds to increase its dividend and stock buyback plans to $100 million a "major step forward."

"We've added to our Apple position. Now we just wait for the release of Apple's next blockbuster product," Einhorn said.

That seems to settle, at least for now, a feud that erupted earlier this year after Apple's stock plummeted for several months. Einhorn had been pressing Apple to return more of its cash to shareholders, and became upset about a proposal on the company's annual proxy that he believed might make that more difficult.

The proposal would have...

Adobe announced it will no longer release new Creative Suite updates but will rather focus solely on its Creative Cloud.

Adobe shifts Creative software to the cloud, monthly subscription

Adobe is altering the way it does business, announcing this week that it will no longer make and sell a boxed version of its Creative Suite software and will instead charge users a monthly subscription to use its cloud-based version.

Although it will continue to sell boxed Creative Suite 6 products, Adobe said that going forward, it will focus on its Creative Cloud service. That means new versions of its software will be available only to users who pay for the monthly subscription service.

"Focusing development on Creative Cloud will not only accelerate the rate at which Adobe can innovate but also broaden the type of innovation the company can offer the creative community," the company said in a statement issued Monday.

The Creative Cloud service has been available since last year and includes most versions of the company's software, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro. It comes with 20 gigabytes of cloud...

Microsoft insists that Windows 8 is doing just fine, but an update will include some changes to address criticisms.

Microsoft says Windows 8 sales 'good' but will update amid criticisms

In the face of mounting criticisms and sluggish PC sales, Microsoft continues to insist that its gamble on the radically redesigned Windows 8 operating system is paying off, if slowly.

Tami Reller, the Windows division's chief marketing officer and chief financial officer, said in a blog post on Tuesday that Microsoft has sold 100 million licenses for Windows 8, up from 60 million sold by January. The new operating system launched in October.

The new operating system failed to provide the boost to PC sales many in the industry had hoped to see, causing critics to label Windows 8 a disappointment. In the blog post, Reller insisted that measuring the progress of Windows 8 by just looking at PC sales was a mistake since the new operating system was designed for both mobile and desktop computing.

"The PC is also part of a much broader device market of tablets and PCs," Reller says. "Windows 8 was built to fully participate in this broader and...

A Samsung Experience Shop inside a Best Buy store. Hundreds are to follow.

Samsung opening 1,400 mini-shops inside Best Buy stores across U.S.

The next time you walk into a Best Buy store, there's a good chance you'll see Samsung's answer to Apple's retail stores.

The South Korean electronics giant, which has been closing the gap between itself and Apple, is rolling out hundreds of mini-shops across the U.S. inside Best Buy big-box locations as well as its smaller mobile-specific retail shops. The stores are formally called Samsung Experience Shops and will showcase Samsung products.

A couple of shops opened in March and more have opened since. Samsung hopes to have 900 of them up and running by the end of this month with another 500 opening throughout "late spring and early summer."

One of the primary purposes of the shops is to provide Samsung customers with assistance on their devices. That's no surprise considering Samsung credits its social media fans for sparking its decision to build out the shops.

"We heard from those fans and they said 'Hey Samsung, we love your products but are you...

Barnes & Noble has discounted its Nook tablets by $50 in time for Mother's Day.

Barnes & Noble drops Nook prices, eyes Mother's Day sales boost

Barnes & Noble knows it's not winning the tablet race by any margin, but the book retailer is hoping for a big boost for Mother's Day.

The company is discounting its 9-inch screen Nook HD+ tablet by $90, down from $269 to $179. Barnes & Noble is also discounting the Nook HD by $50 from $199 to $149. The Nook HD has a smaller 7-inch screen with a lower resolution than the screen on the Nook HD+.

But besides discounts, Barnes & Noble is also making efforts to improve the products to spur sales. Last week, Barnes & Noble announced it would issue a software update to enable the Google Play digital store on its Nook HD devices.

By adding the Google Play store, Barnes & Noble is enabling its tablets to work with 700,000 apps. Previously, Nook users were limited to an app selection of 10,000 in the Nook store. The Google Play store also offers millions of songs and thousands of movies and TV shows.

The discounts and the software update may help Barnes & Noble,...

For the first time, Apple cracked the Fortune 500 list's top 10.

Apple makes Fortune 500's top 10 for first time; Facebook makes list

Despite having a rough year on Wall Street, Apple cracked the top 10 in the Fortune 500 list for the first time, jumping from No. 17 to No. 6.

The Fortune 500, compiled by the business magazine Fortune, ranks the largest corporations in the U.S. based on annual revenues. The tech giant was just behind Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and ahead of General Motors on the list. Wal-Mart continued to rein as the largest corporation in the U.S.

Apple's high ranking on the list comes at a time where the company is experiencing a rare instance of turbulence. Since peaking at more than $700 per share in September, Apple's stock price has dropped more than 35% and is currently trading around $461 per share. The drop in stock price comes as investors worry about Apple's grip on the smartphone and tablet market as Samsung and others begin to gain traction against the once seemingly unbeatable Cupertino, Calif., tech giant.

LinkedIn turned 10 years old Sunday. Above, the company's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.

LinkedIn reaches 225 million users as it marks its 10th birthday

While many people were celebrating Cinco de Mayo this weekend, LinkedIn was marking its 10th anniversary.

The professionally-focused social network became a decade old Sunday. To commemorate the occasion, LinkedIn uploaded a neat visual time line complete with pictures from the company's first office, including the translucent iMacs that were new at the time.

"In 2003, we were a handful of guys in a living room. Today, 3,700+ employees are celebrating 'Cinco de LinkedIn' around the world," the company said in a blog post

The social network used the occasion to announce it has more than 225 million total members.

"At the end of our first month, we had 4,500 members in the network," the company's post said.

Besides its visual history timeline, LinkedIn also put up a slide-show presentation showing screen shots of the website from each year, showing how the social network has evolved over the course of 10 years.

Google Glass ridiculed in hilarious 'Saturday Night Live' sketch

Google Glass is an impressive device that lets users walk around with a smart computer visible in the corner of their eye, but like most pieces of technology, it has imperfections. And this weekend, "Saturday Night Live" hilariously pointed them out.

Randall Meeks, a geeky technology correspondent played by "SNL" cast member Fred Armisen, wears a make-shift version of the futuristic device in a piece on the show's "Weekend Update" news segment. Trying to demonstrate how easy it is to use Glass, he makes a series of comically outrageous head bobs to navigate the device all the while talking about how no one can notice what he is doing.

"I used to spend so much time of my life looking down at my phone, and now, thanks to Google Glass, the phone is up here and I can use it without being rude or distracting," Meeks tells Seth Meyers .

STORY: Google Glass can take photo with a wink

"Best of all, they look like totally normal glasses," Meeks says, to which Meyers responds, "Oh, I don't...

Some Whispers are more personal than others.

Whisper shares information about your favorite subject: You

Not many start-ups hit profitability from the get-go. The Los Angeles-based developer of the Whisper app might be the exception.

The iOS app, developed by childhood friends and neighbors Michael Heyward and Brad Brooks, allows users to anonymously share and post their ideas and “deepest, darkest secrets” through pictures and texts.

The sharing platform (data is not stored) launched officially last November and already has more than 1 million users. The app is free but its direct-messaging feature has to be purchased, and according to iTunes, those purchases have made it one of the top sellers in the digital store.

From an early stage, the start-up put private messaging behind a paywall as a way to ensure the quality of the content that users shared, while also driving revenue from the beginning of its launch. Users pay $5.99 a month to communicate directly with one another inside the app (it is free to the recipient who participates in the dialogue). More than 800,000...

Review: Samsung Galaxy S 4 is top notch, but disappoints [Video]

Review: Samsung Galaxy S 4 is top notch, but disappoints [Video]

Samsung's Galaxy S 4 might be one of the best smartphones around, but it is only a small upgrade over the Galaxy S III.

The new flagship phone, which is called the GS4 for short, began selling late last month and is a solid smartphone with top-of-the-line technologies and simple-to-use features. But with no new mind-blowing features, it may not be worth the upgrade.

There is a lot to like about the device though, particularly for those looking for a new smartphone. Let's start with my favorite part: the camera.

Samsung outfitted the GS4 with a 13-megapixel camera, and it is a dramatic improvement over the 8-megapixel camera found on the GS3. The new phone takes photos with very vibrant colors and extreme detail. The quality of the photos is so good it made me want to take more shots. Video quality was also superb, and Samsung has improved the quality of the front-facing camera from shooting 720p HD videos to full 1080p HD. So if you use your smartphone to take a lot of photos and video...
