Look out for the new RHS AGM logo

THE RHS has released a new logo for its Award of Garden Merit (AGM), the award given to plants which are proven good garden performers.
The rebranding marks stronger links with the horticultural trade and for gardeners it should provide better signposting to RHS AGM plants. Garden centre visitors will see the new logo appearing on the labels of more award-winning plants and displays - all part of a drive to help them make informed choices when selecting plants for their particular garden.
“We like the new logo - it is more meaningful at first glance,” says Jane Darby, Sales Director, Darby Nursery Stock. “It should encourage customers to choose RHS AGM plants for better performance and create more successful gardeners.”

Why choose AGM plants?
Every year RHS Plant Committees select a wide variety of plants, including fruit and vegetables for trial. These trials often run for several years with different growing conditions, and plants are regularly assessed. If they perform consistently well, they are recommended for recognition as an RHS AGM.
There are two other ways that RHS AGM plants are selected:
- Our plant committee experts discuss the merits of different varieties and, based on their experience and knowledge, make recommendations for the award.
- The RHS also takes advice from specialist groups and experts and, based on their advice, awards RHS AGMs.
The Award was first introduced in 1922 although from its very beginning, more than 200 years ago, the charity has been helping gardeners choose plants that best suit their individual growing conditions. The RHS has also given the AGM to more than 1,000 fruit and vegetable varieties.
This year the RHS is also hosting the world’s first International Trials Conference, 4 to 7 July at RHS Garden Wisley. Kylie Balmain, Head of Horticultural Trials and Relations said: 'There is already a lot of interest. Support from the horticultural trade has been very positive.
