Dr. Drew Pinsky says he's done with 'Celebrity Rehab'

3 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

If VH1 does another edition of "Celebrity Rehab," it will do so without Dr. Drew Pinsky.

In an interview on the Zach Sang and the Gang radio show, Pinsky says he doesn't "have any plans to do that again," largely because of the stress of the job.

"I'm tired of taking all the heat -- it's just ridiculous," Pinsky says (the full interview is here; "Celebrity Rehab" talk starts about eight minutes in). "These are burdensome patients that I follow for long periods of time -- we're still kind of treating the rehab patients form last year. We treat them for a good six, nine months. ... These are really sick people. That's why they die."

Five patients who have appeared on "Celebrity Rehab" have subsequently died, most recently country singer Mindy McCready earlier this year. Pinsky said at the time that he was no longer treating McCready.

"I'm tired. ... It's very stressful, »

'RuPaul's Drag Race': Season 5 finalist Alaska talks long road to the show and the one challenge that almost sent her home

5 minutes ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

As the world awaits the reveal of the winning queen on Logo's "RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 5, the final three (Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon and Roxxxy Andrews) are waiting as well. Though the Season 5 finale (airing Monday, May 6) has already filmed, the announcement of the victor is taped to include every possible outcome. As Alaska tells Zap2It, "We're going to find out with the rest of the world."

Alaska's road to "Drag Race," famously, was a long one and bumpy one, that included auditioning every season. "It's been really crazy because, yeah, I have auditioned every season and it eventually just became a horrible vendetta to get on the show," she jokes. "I also don't know what to do with myself, either. I'm usually making an audition tape this time of year, so, I'm like, 'What do I do?' Maybe I'll just make one."

Not only did Alaska audition for each and every season, »

NHL Sets Kings-Ducks Outdoor Game At Dodger Stadium

31 minutes ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

The real fun might not be seeing the La Kings against rival Anaheim Ducks in Chavez Ravine but instead those poor workers and Zamboni drivers trying to keep the ice from melting on a potentially hot La day. That’s what first came to mind when the NHL today announced the Jan 25, 2014, game as part of its expanded outdoor schedule last year. The Stadium Series as it’s now called was spawned by the successful annual Winter Classic game on New Year’s Day, which has boosted awareness of the sport, and provided NBC a killer TV alternative to college bowl game blowouts. Toronto plays Chicago at Soldier Field on March 1, and other matchups are to be announced. We wonder though if anybody in the league office ever asked the players about these extra outdoor games? These are regular-season affairs, which players play for their salaries — and the issue of »

Season 12 of American Idol is down to three closely matched ladies — but is the race already over?

Even if the answer is “yes,” though, we outline reasons why it’s vital for Angie to return to her highest performance level after fumbling the ball a bit during Top 4 Redux Week.

ABC fall TV 2013 predictions: 'Nashville,' 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' and what the network needs

52 minutes ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

In less than a week, the broadcast networks will start announcing their lineups for the 2013-14 season, and all of them will tout rosters of new shows that are all high-testing, broad-based, sure-fire hits.

That, of course, won't end up being the case. The past few years, only about a third of the new shows the broadcast nets have rolled out made it to a second season. Which means, every year, ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW are looking to fill some sort of need in their schedules.

That's where Zap2it comes in. As we do every year at this time, we're going to propose some network schedules for next season and assess what each network needs for the coming season.

Pics: 22 pilots we hope become series

So if we were running ABC, its fall lineup might look like this (new shows in italics, all times Et/Pt). The whys follow the schedule. »

Zach Galifianakis stars in fake '70s cop show in cut dress rehearsal 'Saturday Night Live' sketch -- Video

58 minutes ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Who can say why certain Saturday Night Live sketches don’t make the final live cut?

Zach Galifianakis’s show this past week had plenty of oddball material, so maybe that’s the reason Kanish, starring Galifianakis and Bill Hader-as-Judd-Hirsch in a fake ’70s crime show dragged down by technical errors, didn’t air. Happily, the dress rehearsal version of the sketch was posted online, so fans can watch Hader and Galifianakis give the sketch their cheesy crime show best — if only their punchlines didn’t keep getting cut off and the freeze frames weren’t so awkward.

Check out a retrospective on Kanish, »

'Life's Too Short' series finale special premieres July 5 on HBO

1 hour ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Life's Too Short" will end its short run July 5 on HBO.

The comedy series stars Warwick Davis (who played Professor Flitwick in the "Harry Potter" films) as a mockumentary version of himself and was created by "The Office" masterminds Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

It's a co-production between HBO and the BBC, but failed to achieve the acclaim or popularity of other Gervais/Merchant collaborations including "Extras" and animated podcast "The Ricky Gervais Show."

After the first season of seven episodes, Gervais initially indicated the show would move forward with Season 2. But HBO announced in January that "Life's Too Short" would end with a single finale special to provide storyline closure.

The hour-long special -- featuring a guest appearance by Davis' "Willow" co-star Val Kilmer -- already aired in the U.K. on March 30. »

The Mentalist finale: Who is Red John?

As promised, The Mentalist's Season 5 finale found Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) narrowing down the list of people who could possibly be his serial killer nemesis Red John to just seven names. But in a final twist and display of power, Red John "changed the game" by predicting — in the form of a video message from the now-dead Lorelei Martins (Emmanuelle Chriqui) no less! — which seven names Jane was going to end with. He also shared this parting threat: "I'm going to start killing again, often. Until you catch me, or I catch you."

Creator Bruno Heller insists that one of these suspects is indeed Red John...

'Dear Mom, Love Cher': The beat goes on for Georgia Holt

Georgia Holt is one of those fabulous women people should know about. Besides having given the world Cher, she's realizing a lifelong dream at 86.

Holt is the subject of "Dear Mom, Love Cher," a documentary on Lifetime Monday, May 6.Poised to release her first album, which she always wanted to do, Holt is open -- sometimes too open for her daughter -- about her life in this sweet special.

Incidentally, Cher's husky, strong voice sounds a lot like her mom's. Holt had tapes from songs she recorded decades ago rotting away in a garage. Cher knew someone who could salvage the sound and create an album. When Cher spoke with Zap2it, she was nudging her mom to finish the liner notes.

The documentary includes footage of mother and daughter singing together and brief clips of Cher's performances. Mainly, though, it focuses on telling family stories. Cher marvels at how her mother never gave up. »

'The Bachelorette' premiere: A naked guy, a 'fantasy suite' and more

2 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

ABC has released the details about the premiere episode of Desiree Hartsock's season of "The Bachelorette." There's a lot going on, but here are the highlights:

Desiree is made to feel like a princess, as she is welcomed to the Bachelorette manse and given both the keys to a Bentley and a silvery gown. One of the bachelors is a "sleight-of-hand artist". (Illusionist? Magician-American? What do they prefer to be called?)Over the course of the first meet 'n greet, an oil-rig worker gets totally nude and jumps in the pool. Because he's that guy. One bachelor offers to show Desiree his private "fantasy suite" and apparently her reaction shocks the house. Naughty. Later in the season, Desiree and her men travel to Atlantic City, Germany, Spain, the island of Madeira (off the coast of Portugal) and other exotic locales. There are performances by Andy Grammer, Soulja Boy, Kate Earl, »

Shonda Rhimes Talks Major 'Scandal' Mole Revelation + Explosive Season Finale

2 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

"When we revealed who the mole was to the cast, cast members literally got up from the table and ran around the table screaming, which was hilarious. Then when we revealed the twist on the twist of who the mole was, I thought I'd have to sedate cast members because people were freaking out, which was awesome. It's not just who the mole is, it's who the mole is working with and what's going on there that's even bigger than just who the mole is. We're really proud of who the mole is, that's a pretty surprising twist but it's even bigger than that." Words from showrunner Shonda Rhimes talking to THR after last week's episode of Scandal. Needless to say, I'd guess the above quote will excite fans of the series, as the series reaches the end of its successful second season, with just 2 episodes left before the summer break. »

Big Media Pay: Who Were 2012′s Highest Paid CEOs?

2 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

No surprise about who topped the list of 2012′s highest paid CEOs at the media companies whose compensation practices I track most closely. (See here for an explanation). CBS’ Les Moonves returns to the head of the pack with $62.2M, even though his package was 11.1% smaller than it was in 2011. That was an anomaly: The top 20 collectively made $542.7M, up from $416.6M in 2011, according to company proxy statements filed at the SEC. It took $25.9M to crack the Top 10 — last year Time Warner Cable’s Glenn Britt made it with $16.4M. The most notable change in this year’s list vs 2011 is the jump by Liberty Media’s Greg Maffei to No. 2 from No. 28 as his company adjusted stock options just in case the feds change the corporate deduction this year for performance-based compensation. Tony, Schmony. Bette Midler may have been snubbed by Tony nominators for her one-woman comedy I’ll Eat You Last, but she’s having the last laugh at the box office. According to figures from the Broadway League, ticket sales for the Divine Miss M’s first Broadway show in 30 years jumped 17 percent for the week ending May 5, to $753,217. That’s a record for the relatively tiny Booth Theatre and comes despite the fact that Midler performed only seven shows (most Broadway productions schedule eight performances per week). Her producers took advantage of premium pricing and stellar reviews, but the »
