Jamie Foxx To Join Quvenzhané Wallis In 'Annie'

3 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Jamie Foxx has certainly been full of surprises lately, whether it's nerding out for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" or deciding to produce, write and direct a horror series for SyFy. And once again, we never could have predicted this next move, one that will see Foxx putting his musical skills (he's a platinum selling R&B artist, in case you forgot) to good use. The actor is in talks to join "Beasts Of The Southern Wild" star Quvenzhané Wallis in the big screen remake of "Annie." As you probably already have guessed, he'll be playing Daddy Warbucks, only now the character has been renamed to Benjamin Stacks....Get It? Benjamin Stacks because he's stackin' the Benjamins, if you didn't get that. As far as casting goes, hard to argue with the choice: dude has got the charisma and chops to make it work.  Going for a Great Depression era setting, »

Gears Of War Movie Back In Development

1 hour ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Stop us if you.ve heard this one before, but Hollywood appears ready to move forward with an adaptation of the third-person shooter game Gears of War, with Scott Stuber on board to produce and guide the film through production. Why am I being such a naysayer about a Gears of War movie? Probably because we first wrote about the possibility of a Gears adaptation back in 2007, with follow ups in 2008, 2010 and 2012 . all of which managed to go nowhere. This time might be different. At least, we hope. Variety says that Stuber has a first-look deal with Universal, though no studio has committed to the Gears of War movie at the moment. Stuber.s credits in recent years include broad comedies like Seth MacFarlane's Ted and action thrillers like Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. He could be the right mentor for a Gears of War movie. »

Interview: 'Lords Of Salem' Director Rob Zombie Talks Making The Film, Studio Expectations, 'Broad Street Bullies' & More

1 hour ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

There are few genre filmmakers working today who are as exciting and unpredictable as Rob Zombie. The rock musician (he continues to make music – he just dropped a new album,  Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor) has a singular love for all things horror, particularly the down-and-dirty chillers from the seventies and early eighties, augmenting these earlier films with bold stylistic experimentation and a kind of gleeful willingness to push the envelope when it comes to sex and violence. His latest film, "Lords of Salem," produced by Blumhouse Productions and distributed by Anchor Bay, was released last week. A bold stylistic departure for Zombie, it's a leisurely paced descent into madness more akin to Roman Polanski's apartment trilogy than anything involving Texas, chainsaws, or massacres. Zombie's first film, the screechy "House of 1000 Corpses," was almost all influence and no authorship. Thankfully, Zombie rebounded with "The Devil's Rejects," which placed »

Disney Princesses Get Sloth-ified

Disney's princesses need to be taken down a peg or two once in a while for posterity's sake, and what better way than this sloth mash-up series which calls 'em out for being lazy little prisspants?

To be fair, these girls are super young — we're talkin' straight up jailbait here, fellas — but that totally doesn't excuse them from lounging around waiting on their knight in shining whatever to come around and plant a smooch on them so they'll get their rears outta their canopied beds.

It's sooo not the millennial way of things, got it girls?

Graphic artist Phillip Light decided to imbue a little reality into the picture when it comes to some of these cartoon heroines and voila! The layabouts are revealed as Snow Sloth and The Little Slothmaid and Slothmin ...

Star Trek Into Darkness Spoof Ad Proves There Are Fender Benders In Space

1 hour ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Ah, sweet marketing tie-ins. Be it fast food joints, giant soda corporations or, in this case, insurance companies, everybody wants a piece of the pie when major motion pictures launch into theaters. That explains the above spoof ad entitled Space Fender Bender for Esurance.com. The clip appears to take place on the actual bridge of a ship used in J.J. Abrams. Star Trek Into Darkness, only its centered around a rival crew who wonders why the Enterprise gets all of the cool missions. Maybe that.s because Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) doesn.t get rear-ended by extraterrestrials in deep space? It.s lame, sure, but I.ll say this much: at least it isn.t Pine, Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch yukking it it for the benefit of an insurance company. That would have been shameless. Ever wonder what people are getting all excited about when they see an "exclusive" trailer at one of those comic book conventions? Well, here you go, today Warner Bros. released the footage from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim that was screened at this year's WonderCon with the following message from del Toro: "This was originally intended for only WonderCon, but after listening to so many of you asking for more of the movie online, I think it's time for me to show you more footage. Enjoy, my friends!" Maybe we should just start a petition now to get the whole movie online if this is what we can look forward to when just a few people ask. I mean, it's only fair... right? Pacific Rim pits CG monsters versus CG robots and will be released in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX on July 12. Check out the new stuff below. »

Greg Kinnear As Jason Bateman? We Almost Got A Meta-Meta ‘Arrested Development’ Movie & 8 Things Learned About The New Netflix Season

1 hour ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Seven years in the making, and honestly not something many realistic pragmatists like us thought would ever come to pass, “Arrested Development” is returning in May on Netflix with all the 15 episodes at once, so you can binge through them all in one sitting, as is the norm for big TV digestion these days. No, it’s not quite a fourth season, or at least says Jason Bateman, but it’s the continuation of the Bluth’s story some 10 years later. Entertainment Weekly’s cover story last week has an awesome breakdown of the “Arrested Development” return and how unflappable series creator Mitch Hurwitz willed it into existence with unwavering tenacity. Designed as a prequel to a movie that doesn’t yet exist or have a green light (more on that in a bit), “Arrested Development” premieres on Netflix, May 26th. Scott Stuber Game for ‘Gears of War’ Movie (Exclusive)

1 hour ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

It’s been a long time coming but the popular third-person shooter videogame “Gears of War” may be getting closer to a film adaptation.

Scott Stuber is coming on to produce and begin developing the script with  videogame’s creator, Epic Games.

The project has yet to attach talent, writer or distributor, although Stuber does have a first look deal with Universal. Both parties will begin taking it out to studios.

Like almost every major game property, “Gears of War” has had a long, tough road towards a film adaptation.

New Line picked up the rights in 2007, tasking Stuart Beattie to adapt the script and Len Wiseman to direct. When creative differences between the studio and Epic could not be reconciled, New Line let the property go and it has since been looking for a new home.

Six months ago Epic began taking meetings with producers to decide where the rights would land next. »
