‘American Idol’ Briefly Considered Replacing Mariah Carey With Jennifer Lopez

13 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Fox’s music competition American Idol maybe should switch to the drama series awards categories with all the behind-the-scenes drama on the show. There has been another wave of rumors and speculation over the past 12 hours. Here’s what I’ve learned. There was an idea at Fox about a month ago to replace new judge Mariah Carey with her predecessor Jennifer Lopez midway through the live shows. I hear Lopez was approached and was very interested. (She has a new single coming out.) However, I hear there was concern among some parties involved that the move could appear desperate and further damage the Idol brand. It is unclear how much in the loop on the replacement plot Carey and her team were but I hear they didn’t have to resort to legal action as the idea of a midstream judge switcheroo went away after a brief discussion. However, »

HBO Developing Guillermo Del Toro Manga Adaptation 'Monster'

8 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Guillermo Del Toro is such an impossibly busy guy that sometimes it seems worth taking announcements of his new projects with a grain of salt -- there's no way they can all actually come to pass, right? On the TV side, Del Toro has been working on a "The Incredible Hulk" series that seems to be in development purgatory at the moment, he's directing a pilot for "The Strain" for FX, based on the trilogy of vampire novels he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, and he's set to executive produce and direct a project in development at HBO called "Nutshell Studies," a Hitchcockian period drama about a housewife who becomes obsessed with solving violent crimes. And now, according to Deadline, Del Toro's got a new small screen project in the works, this one also at HBO. "Monster" is based on a manga series by Naoki Urasawa (author of "20th Century Boys" and "Yawara! »

D'Angelo Barksdale Is Reportedly Joining 'Walking Dead' Cast As Series Regular

13 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

I'd file this one under unconfirmed for now. Although International Digital Times is a reputable magazine... International Digital Times is reporting exclusively that Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (likely best known for his role as D'Angelo Barksdale for 18 episodes of The Wire, although he's done a lot more) is in talks to join season 4 of AMC's hit zombie drama series The Walking Dead, in a new series regular role. Of course the question is what role exactly could that be? And are producers of the series really going to have a 4 black series regulars on the show at one time?  Recall that, just a couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Chad Coleman (who plays Tyreese, and who's also a former cast member of The Wire) and Sonequa Martin-Green (who plays Sasha) had been promoted to series regulars in the hit zombie series, which returns in October. And there's also Danai Gurira as Michonne, »

'American Idol' Top 4: Angie Miller wins the night - so who's going home?

3 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The themes this week on "American Idol" are contestants' choice and one-hit wonders, plus a couple duets thrown in for good measure. That's a lot of singin' -- let's get to it.

1. Amber Holcomb, "The Power of Love," Celine Dion

Wow. It's like Whitney singing Celine. The a capella opening is exquisite. She is just ... wow. It's not exactly current, but when you can sing, you can sing. That high note was perfection. Also, she looks amazing. Those big curls really suit her.

The judges are over the moon about it -- Keith calls it an "amazingly perfect" song choice and Randy says she's the contestant who has grown the most over the competition. For sure.

2. Candice Glover, "Find Your Love," Drake

Interesting song choice, but if she wants to be current R&B, then this is a good pick. It's nice to hear her put her diva-ness on it, »

She got the boot two weeks ago on Glee, but star Jane Lynch promises we haven't seen the last of Coach Sue Sylvester yet.

"There's no ending," she tells TVGuide.com. "She teaches aerobics at 23 Hour Fitness and we'll see what happens to her."

Sue's sudden career shift comes after she took the hit for her Cheerios co-captain and longtime protégé Becky (Lauren Potter), who brought a gun to McKinley out of fear and accidentally fired it in Sue's office. The incident led to a...

'American Idol' Top 4: The judges make it clear they want Amber over Kree

4 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

We mere mortals can't always tell a "good" performance from a "great" performance on "American Idol." That's one explanation for the disconnect between the beautiful singing of Candice Glover and Kree Harrison and the judges' mostly negative reactions.

Considering that Amber Holcomb and Angie Miller received positive reviews for what seemed to be only marginally better performances, another explanation may be the judges making it clear who they want in the finale.

Honestly, unless I'm unexpectedly tone deaf, the second theory is the one I'm going with.

Amber, Amber, Amber ...

Just in case you've been retreating to a cave during every bit of judge commentary throughout "Idol" Season 12, the judges like Amber. They like her a lot and have been justifiably irritated that America doesn't seem to share the sentiment. Despite a whole bunch of consistently good performances, Amber has rarely seen voting numbers to match.

American Idol: Who Got Into a Shouting Match?

4 hours ago | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »

American Idol owes Candice Glover an apology.

The judges' critique of Candice's second performance Wednesday was hijacked when a shouting match erupted between the panelists and Jimmy Iovine over Amber Holcomb — whom some are calling this season's pre-ordained winner. As Candice stood by awkwardly, waiting to hear the judges' thoughts on her performance, host Ryan Seacrest brought Iovine out from backstage to explain his comments that the judges "missed the point" of Amber's take on "MacArthur Park."

'Survivor: Caramoan': Malcolm makes an interesting move at the Survivor Auction

Can the Three Amigos pull off another crazy week on "Survivor: Caramoan"? Let's find out!

Madeline

After Tribal, nobody seems too upset about Phillip's ouster. Yeah, we can't imagine we'd cry too much over that one. But can the Three Amigos keep shaking things up? It'll be interesting to see what Erik does, since he flipped and nobody knows.

Erik enjoys being the swing vote, but as has been demonstrated before -- Erik is not exactly a master strategist in this game, so it remains to be seen if he actually works this to his advantage.

Meanwhile, Cochran is pretty pumped to have been part of such a crazy Tribal Council. Yeah, we would be too. The "Survivor" fans in us would completely lose our minds.

Speaking of losing one's mind, Brenda is freaking out a little bit about what this means for the Favorites alliance. Man, Brenda »

American Idol Top 4 Performance Night Recap: I Don't Think That I Can Take It

The final four ladies — Angie Miller (pictured), Amber Holcomb, Candice Glover, and Kree Harrison — performed a song of their own choosing and then a “one hit wonder,” which apparently called for a time warp. Nothing from later than the ’70s! In it to win it tonight! “I think you’re so current and so now,” Randy Jackson lied through his teeth to Amber after she sang “MacArthur Park.” It was the judges’ most manipulative night yet, which is saying a Lot.

David Letterman campaigning for fired news anchor A.J. Clemente to get job back

Fired Kfyr-tv news anchor and viral video sensation A.J. Clemente has one more supporter in his corner: David Letterman.

On Wednesday (April 24), after a full press day that took him to both the "Today" show and "Live with Kelly and Michael," Clemente sat for an interview on the "Late Show with David Letterman."

Letterman seemed especially bothered by the Bismarck, N.D. station's actions after Clemente's profane flub on his first day on the job, to the point where it seemed the comedian was campaigning for the newsman's rehiring.

"Now, what about these goons in Bismarck? Are they going to give you the job back?" Letterman asks. Clemente, laughing, says, "They aren't goons, but..."

Letterman adds, "There should be an offer, and they should apologize to you. And you should go back because you're man enough to face the music. You've been on this show, you've been on a lot of shows, »

'Glee' songs: Preview 'We Will Rock You,' 'Everybody Hurts' and more music from 'Lights Out'

5 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

For its next installment, "Lights Out," a power outage is going to force "Glee" to go acoustic. All of the kids at McKinley High get to try out their low-tech singing with such classics as Queen's "We Will Rock You," Rem's "Everybody Hurts" and more.

We even get to hear Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) performing Miss Hannigan's song from "Annie"! Check out that song and five more in this musical preview for "Lights Out."

No matter how hard they try, the kids of New Directions aren't exactly up to the standards set by Queen. But this is seriously an impressive attempt with "We Will Rock You."

It's too bad they didn't think to segue into "We Are the Champions" like Queen did on the album. Oh well. This is still good.
