UGA Alumni Association:

UGA Alumni Association Scholars and Fellows


Endowed Scholar

Mary Nguyen Mary Nguyen is a freshman from Norcross; she graduated from the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology. Majoring in exercise and sports science, Mary hopes to become a physical therapist and is interested in exploring alternative therapies being used in the field.
 

Endowed Scholar

Lyndsey Adams Lyndsey Adams is a senior majoring in Anthropology from Hoschton, Ga. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and has served as the Greek Relations Chairwoman. Lyndsey has also been involved with UGA Relay for Life for the past four years where she has served as a team captain and a member of multiple committees. Lyndsey is currently serving as the Secretary of the Student Alumni Council. She also works for the UGA Alumni Association as a student intern in the Communications Department and was named a 2012 UGA Student Employee of the Year.
 

Endowed Scholar

Sarah Whitfield Sarah Whitfield is from Cumming, Georgia, and graduated from North Forsyth High School in May 2012. She is majoring in biology with a pre-med intent and plans to continue her education to become a pediatric oncologist.
 

Study Abroad Fellow

Sue Park Sue Park is from Roswell, Ga., and is a chemistry major planning to graduate in 2015. Upon graduation, Sue plans to go to graduate school and eventually conduct her own research in a lab. In addition, she would like to use a portion of the profits from her research to fund a scholarship program for individuals who cannot afford an education. Sue will be studying abroad at Yonsei University in South Korea.
 

Miss UGA Platform Sponsorship:

Shelby McLeod Shelby McLeod is from Madison, Ga., and is a junior public relations and music business major. As Miss UGA, Shelby promotes breast cancer awareness through her platform, “Relay for Life: What’s Your Number?” After completing college, she hopes to work in public relations for Country Music Television and perform at the Grand Ole Opry.
 

Black Alumni Scholar

Dedrek L. Bryant Dedrek L. Bryant hails from Valdosta, Ga., where he graduated from Valdosta High School. At UGA, he is a pre-business and economics major. Dedrek also was awarded the Black Faculty Staff Organization scholarship. After graduation, Dedrek plans to continue his education by attending law school.

Kourtland Jones Kourtland Jones is a junior from Atlanta and graduated from Westlake High School. He plans to apply to the Terry College of Business to pursue his goal of being an accountant. Kourtland will graduate from UGA in 2014.

Phillip Kennedy Philip Kennedy is from Albany and graduated from Lee County High School. He is a sports & exercise science major and will graduate in 2013. Philip plans to continue his education to become a licensed physical therapist.

LeJoi Lane Freshman LeJoi Lane is from Atlanta and graduated from Henry W. Grady High School. She is interested in journalism, especially feature journalism. Her majors are mass media arts and consumer journalism
 

Alumni Association UGA Opera Ensemble Fellow:

Joseph Brent Joseph Brent is an opera graduate assistant working towards his Doctoral Degree (DMA) in vocal verformance. During the summer of 2011, he participated in the Festival of the Aegean on Syros Island, Greece. Joe performed the leading tenor role of Rodolfo in a concert version performance of Puccini’s La Boehme with the UGA Symphony Orchestra in the Performing Arts Center Hodgson Hall for the UGA Opera Theater in the fall 2011.
 

Graduate School Faculty Diversity Award

Dr. Mary Alice Smith Dr. Mary Alice Smith is an associate professor in the Department of Environmental Health Science. Her research develops model systems to identify microbial and chemical agents that affect pregnancy and development. Those models are then used to investigate mechanisms of toxicity and develop therapies for treating adverse effects.
 

Graduate Student Diversity Engagement Award

Daleah Goodwin Daleah Goodwin is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History. Her research focuses on 20th century black women and identity.
 

Faculty Writing Fellow

Dr. Velma Zahirovic-Herbert Dr. Velma Zahirovic-Herbert, a native of Bosnia-Herzegovina, is assistant professor of housing and consumer economics. Her research focuses on real property and household economic issues that are central to urban residents’ daily lives. She was recently named the FACS Advisor of the Year.
 

CURO Honors Scholarship Fellow

Hope Foskey: CURO Honors Scholarship Fellow Hope Foskey is from Charlotte, N.C., where she graduated from Charlotte Christian School in 2011. As a second year student, Hope entered UGA’s Pharmacy School and will graduate in 2015. She is currently studying the central nervous system in relation to the expression and mutations of a particular gene that has been associated with aniridia, a disease of the eye.
