Bargeron named to ISAC

Chuck BargeronUGA public service assistant Chuck Bargeron has been named to the Invasive Species Advisory Committee (ISAC) for the National Invasive Species Council (NISC). ISAC members provide scientific and other input to the NISC regarding non-native plants and animals that annually cause $35 billion in economic and other hardship in the United States. NISC's goal is to ensure that federal programs and activities to prevent and control invasive species are coordinated effectively and efficiently.

Bargeron is the associate director for the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health located in Tifton, Ga.

Land-grant universities honored

Scott Angle, dean of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, recently accepted the World Food Prize Foundation's Borlaug Medallion during a ceremony in Washington D.C. celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Land-grant Act of 1862. This is the highest honor available to groups who are working to improve international food security.

UGA-Tifton's own Dr. Claudia Dunkley, Extension poultry scientist, speaks about the meaning and mission of land-grant universities. Watch the video.

UGA announces 2013 Ag Forecast

2013 Georgia Ag ForecastThe 2013 Georgia Ag Forecast will celebrate the growing export market for Georgia's produce and the international impact of Georgia agriculture.

Dates and locations for the 2013 Farm to Port Ag Forecast program are:

  • Friday, January 25: Athens (Georgia Center for Continuing Education)
  • Monday, January 28: Rome (ECO Center)
  • Tuesday, January 29: Macon (Georgia Farm Bureau)
  • Wednesday, January 30: Tifton (UGA Tifton Conference Center)
  • Thursday, January 31: Bainbridge (Decatur County Livestock Complex)
  • Friday, February 1: Lyons (Toombs County Agri-Center)

The annual seminar series is sponsored by the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Georgia Farm Bureau and the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
