Acute coughs usually last about 18 days
UGA's Mark Ebell examined the gap in patient expectations and the actual length of time the body takes to rid itself of a chest cold. His results show that most patients expect to cough for seven to nine days. In reality, a bronchial illness takes closer to 18 days on average to run its course.

The Georgia Museum of Art will host its biggest fundraiser, Elegant Salute XIII: Black to White, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. The event celebrates the premier monographic exhibition “De Wain Valentine: Human Scale.” Tickets are $300 per person for the full event or $65 per person for admission after dinner, at 9:30 p.m., for Full Spectrum Disco.
Gymnastics team to take on Auburn
The UGA gymnastics team will host Auburn University Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Stegeman Coliseum. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children.
Pageant to crown Miss UGA
The 2013 Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant will be Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on Baldwin Street. The pageant, created in 1961, is sponsored annually by the Student Government Association. It is a preliminary pageant for the Miss America Pageant Organization. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for nonstudents.
