Make an Advising Appointment

Honors students can make advising appointments online with the Student Advising & Registration Assistant, SARA. You may wish to bookmark this page.

Instructions for using SARA: Make An Appointment

Advising appointments for first- and second-year Honors students in the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences will begin on Monday, September 10, 2012.

Early Registration for all Honors students will begin on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Please check your time in the Registration menu of Oasis.

A&S students in their second or third year with 60 hours or more should be advised in their major department.

If you encounter difficulties making an appointment, please email your advisor. Students who need to cancel or reschedule an appointment may do so 24 hours in advance in SARA.

Walk-in Questions

Students who have questions for Honors advisors but who do not need to be cleared for registration should come to advisors’ walk-in hours. Walk-in hours are Monday through Thursday from 2-4pm in Moore College, and Thursdays and Fridays from 2-4pm in 137 Myers Hall. Please check in at the reception desk for walk-in hours at Moore College.

Honors course Access (POH)

Students may request Permission of Honors (POH) for two (2) Spring 2013 Honors courses according to the following schedule:

  • Fourth-year students: Tuesday, September 4
  • Third-year students: Wednesday, September 5
  • Second-year students: Thursday, September 6
  • First-year students: Friday, September 7

Please note that we are not going by hours earned but by year. If you entered in Fall 2012 you are a first-year student regardless of the number of hours you carry.

Students who receive access before their date allows will have that access canceled.

Please see the Honors Program Course Schedule for a current list of course offerings. Click on the call number of the course selection to confirm the availability of seats.

PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING POH

For POH access, email your Honors advisor or honors@uga.edu with your full legal name, date of birth, and the 5-digit call # of the courses that you are requesting. Access will not be granted by phone until email requests have been answered. Access requests left on voicemail will not be processed. Phones will not be answered before 10AM on the dates above, the first day of Honors registration, or during Drop/Add week.

Exceptions and clarifications

Students who have completed areas I-VI of their core (or 60 or more credit hours earned) MUST be advised by their major department. No Honors appointment is necessary. You may come to walk-in hours with Honors-specific questions following your advising appointment.

Arts & Sciences, Pre-Business, and Pre-Journalism students with fewer than 60 hours earned will meet with an Honors advisor. Students in all other schools and colleges (e.g. College of Education, CAES, FACS, SPIA) must see their college advisor to obtain clearance for registration. You may come to walk-in hours for Honors questions or follow-up with an Honors advisor as needed.

PRE-BUSINESS students who are applying to Terry this semester will NOT be advised by Honors. You will be notified mid-semester of your acceptance into a Terry major, and you will then be advised by your new Terry departmental advisor.

MATH, Computer Science, Physics, or Physics & Astronomy majors should make an appointment in SARA with Dr. Ted Shifrin (shifrin@math.uga.edu).

BIOCHEMISTRY majors who have 45 or more earned hours should contact Dr. Mike Adams (adams@bmb.uga.edu) to set up an advising appointment.

GENETICS majors who have 45 or more earned hours should contact Ms. Susan White (whites@uga.edu).

PSYCHOLOGY majors who have 45 or more earned hours should contact Ms. Tracey Villaveces (tvilla@uga.edu).

CELL BIOLOGY majors who have 45 or more earned hours should contact Ms. Genia King (gking@uga.edu).

All MUSIC majors should contact Dr. Mary Leglar (mleglar@uga.edu).
