Georgetown Exchange Programme

For the 2012/2013 academic year, and subsequent academic years, the University of St Andrews, Scotland and Georgetown University, Washington D.C. have created a student transfer programme whereby postgraduate students have the opportunity to study abroad for one semester. Students from the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) at the University of St Andrews will have the opportunity to study at the Centre for Security Studies at Georgetown University and vice versa. Below are the exceptional students who have been chosen for this exchange.

Andrea Jamborova

Andrea is currently studying for her MLitt in Terrorism Studies at the CSTPV at the University of St Andrews. Prior to enrolling in this masters program, she received a BA in Politics with International Relations at the University of York. Her undergraduate dissertation focused on the attempts of the Czech government to enhance its energy security via the European Neighbourhood Policy. The topic of security and political violence first caught her interest when doing an internship at the department of Common Foreign and Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Beside academia, she was the president of the Politics Society at the University of York and was also a student representative at the Board of Studies at York. She has been involved in volunteering projects across Europe, working with asylum seekers, elderly, and children.

Ryan Doherty

Ryan Doherty

Ryan Doherty is a first-year M.A. candidate in the Security Studies Program at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC. Ryan previously worked as a research associate in the International Forum for Democratic Studies at the National Endowment for Democracy and as a project assistant in the Iraq program at the National Democratic Institute. He is a native of Washington, DC but lived for five years as a child in both Nicosia, Cyprus and London, England. He earned a B.S. in International Business from the University of Maryland in 2009 and studied at the American University of Rome during the spring of 2008. In his free time, Ryan enjoys watching sports, traveling, writing, and reading, especially history and Ernest Hemingway novels.

Rebecca Lindgren

Rebecca Lindgren graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in December 2010 with a B.S. in International Politics. As an undergraduate, she complemented her studies with internships with the Atlantic Partnership, the Cato Institute, and the U.S. Marine Corps. Between graduation and her departure for St. Andrew’s, she worked as a defense contractor in Washington, D.C. She began as a part-time graduate student in Georgetown University’s Security Studies program in January 2012. She anticipates completing the program and receiving her M.A. in Security Studies – Terrorism and Sub-State Violence by December 2013.
