Animal Care & Use

Training & Development

Training of animal care staff and research personnel is a key component of a high quality animal care and use program. Such training activities, in fact, are specified in the federal Animal Welfare Act Regulations and are an expectation of regulatory and accreditation bodies.

AALAS Learning Library

The Office of Animal Care and Use is currently offering training sessions that prepare the participant for AALAS Animal Technician Certifications. For information, please contact Lisa Kelly, Training Coordinator at lmkelly@uga.edu. For specific class information, please visit the blog.

The Office of Animal Care and Use has recently joined with the AALAS Learning Library to provide this vast wealth of training information to all researchers and staff that use animals at the University of Georgia. The AALAS Learning Library contains the two mandatory training courses, “IACUC 101” and “Staying Healthy while Working with Laboratory Animals.”

The Library also offers a multitude of other training courses in order to meet the additional educational needs of our research body. Specifically, the Office of Animal Care and Use would like to encourage all of our researchers to view the species specific training as applicable to their research endeavors. While not a requirement, we hope that you will find this information useful.

You can access the AALAS Learning Library at aalaslearninglibrary.org.

You will need a Username and Password. If you do not have a Username and Password, please contact Lisa Kelly, OACU Training Coordinator, at lmkelly@uga.edu or 706-583-0816. It is not necessary to create an individual account on the Learning Library. UGA sponsors AALAS Learning Library accounts for all of their users.
