In honor of ‘Skyfall,’ a list of the 10 best James Bond theme songs

Ask someone to name the best James Bond theme song ever recorded and she’ll probably say “Goldfinger.” Unless she says “Live and Let Die” ... or possibly “Thunderball.”

(Christie's South Kensington - Post file photo)

Like so many things about the 50-year-old spy franchise, its signature tunes spark strong opinions, as demonstrated last month in a Celebritology Live discussion when several readers weighed in on this topic and sparked a Duran Duran debate. re: “A View to a Kill’s” place in the MI6-movie soundtrack pantheon.

That conversation convinced me to write this Friday list, which ranks the 10 best Bond theme songs. (The signature 007-identifying melody, which is obviously No. 1, was not counted since it’s used throughout the series.) Given the age of the Bond franchise, a significant number of tracks didn’t make the cut. Apologies in advance to Aha, Madonna, Jack White and Alicia Keys and Rita Coolidge.

Of course, this is just based on one Celebritologist’s opinion. I’d love to hear yours’, too. Share your own rankings, or scream at me for omitting Sheryl Crow’s “Tomorrow Never Dies,” by posting a comment below.

Robert Pattinson: On ‘Twilight,’ his relationship with Kristen Stewart and his love of ‘Star Wars’

We’ve read the many, many headlines about Robert Pattinson. We’ve analyzed his work in the “Twilight” series as America’s Most Brooding and Swoon-Inducing Vampire. We’ve watched his frequent and occasionally awkward television interviews. And we’ve pondered the status of his relationship with co-star Kristen Stewart. A lot.

With the “Twilight” saga coming to an end next week following the release of “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” Pattinson, 26, can now fully focus on defining himself as an actor who appears in movies that don’t feature the Volturi. How does he feel as he makes that transition? What does he have to say about accusations that his relationship with Kristen Stewart has been a marketing tool used to sell a semi-steamy vampire romance? And is he really so up for a part in the “Star Wars” franchise that he would willingly play a live-action version of Jar Jar Binks?

During a recent phone interview, I did my best to get the answers to some of these questions. Here’s a transcript of our conversation.

‘Glee’: A guide to its production of ‘Grease’

“Glee” returned to prime time Thursday night after a month-long hiatus that followed the Great Relationship Rupture-o-rama of 2012

A bunch of stuff happened. Finn was convinced by Artie to play a key role in directing the Lima High School musical. Mercedes and Mike also returned to help with the show, because apparently their schedules as a budding L.A. recording artist and Chicago dance student, respectively, are super flexible. Coach Shannon Beiste also was back to give advice to Will and Emma about Will’s forthcoming three-month stint in Washington, D.C., allowing Dot-Marie Jones to make the first and, presumably, last Joe Theismann joke in “Glee” history.

“You looked more crooked than Joe Thiesmann’s leg,” Shannon said of the conflicted expression Emma assumed after initially agreeing to go to D.C. At that point, approximately .002 % of the “Glee” viewing audience chuckled: me, and some dude in Fairfax County, Va. who still has a poster of Joe Jacoby on his wall.

But that’s not important. What’s really important is how “Glee” plans to handle its production of “Grease.” Or, as they’re calling it, “Glease.”

Lindsay Lohan backs out of ‘20/20’ interview; Brooke Burke-Charvet reveals cancer diagnosis

A morning mix of entertainment headlines...

Lindsay Lohan has reportedly backed out of a planned “20/20” interview with Barbara Walters that was supposed to air Nov. 16. According to Deadline, Lohan’s new publicity team was not pleased with “the direction ABC wanted to take the interview.” Which, presumably, was a direction that involved asking Lohan questions about her tilt-a-whirl personal life. (Deadline)

Brooke Burke-Charvet, co-host of “Dancing With the Stars,” revealed in a YouTube video Thursday that she has a cancerous nodule on her thyroid and will get a thyroidectomy to have it removed. Her co-host, Tom Bergeron, expressed his concern for Burke-Charvet on ”The Talk,” saying that “she knows my love and support are with [her].” (Associated Press; YouTube; People)

Mark Wahlberg will star in the fourth “Transformers” movie. Director Michael Bay confirmed the rumored casting coup Thursday on his Web site, calling Wahlberg “the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.” It’s unclear what Wahlberg’s role will be, but hopefully this means the movie will be a “The Other Guys”-esque buddy comedy about Wahlberg’s tough-as-nails military officer and his ne’er-do-well best friend, Bumblebee.(Michaelbay.com)

The forthcoming seventh “Star Wars” movie reportedly has a writer. Vulture reports that sources say Michael Arndt , screenwriter of “Toy Story 3,” “Little Miss Sunshine” and the second “Hunger Games” film, has already written a treatment for ”Star Wars: Episode VII” and will be at least one of the writers crafting the screenplay. Vulture also said that, while no director has been chosen, Arndt’s treatment will be circulated to Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams and that all three “Star Wars” principles — Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo — will hopefully appear in the new movie. Naturally, Disney and Lucasfilm did not confirm these details. (Vulture)

‘Skyfall’ reviews: The many ‘bests’ that describe the new James Bond film

After a recent “Skyfall” media screening ended, a friend and fellow film reviewer immediately declared that he had just seen the “best James Bond movie ever.”

Daniel Craig, giving the best James Bond glare ever? (MGM/Columbia Pictures)

I was equally wowed by the action and ultra-glossy sheen of the new 007 entry. But best ever? That seemed like a bold statement.

Now here we are, with the “Skyfall” release upon us, and nearly every critic in the world overflowing with superlatives that qualify as slight variations on “Best Bond ever.”

The Post’s Ann Hornaday gave the film a very positive three-star review, praising director Sam Mendes for “reinvigorating the James Bond series with a sleek, crisp, classy installment exhibiting just the right proportion of respect for legacy and embrace of novelty.” Others were just as effusive as Hornaday, but more inclined to describe this spy-flick-meets-chilly-terrorism-thriller by noting where it ranks based on an array of Bond-related metrics.
