Jodhpur/Jaipur, Nov. 7 -- After criticism by PETA, British supermodel Naomi Campbell has shed the plan of organizing an elephant polo match for her special guests who came here to attend her Russian billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin's 50th birthday bash. According to sources, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has categorically asked the organizers to cancel the event. In its letter to the Rajasthan government on November 5, AWBI cited the planned event is in violation of animal welfare laws, thus the district collector Gaurav Goyal stopped Naomi from going ahead with the polo match. media coordinator, PETA, Benazir Suraiya, said, "We have brought this issue to the notice of AWBI, which is the top body for animal rights. After hearing the case, AWBI sprung into action and the event now stands cancelled." In the meantime, reports have come that Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson also landed in Jodhpur from Delhi to attend the lavish birthday bashes being organised for Doronin. Fergie was in Delhi to raise funds for a charity. Besides her, thirteen chartered planes are believed to have ferried around 200 VIP guests to India for today's main party.
