Vogue has published an excerpt from creative director Grace Coddington's forthcoming memoir, and it looks as juicy as one could want. It tells of the flame-haired beauty's early modeling days in the late 1950s and early 1960s, a time of glamour, jet-setting, handsome (though feckless, of course) lovers and more. The downside: Models back then had to do their own hair and makeup. [Vogue]

Michelle Obama, Ann Romney pretty in pink at presidential debate |
The presidential debate Tuesday night drew a lot of attention for a lot of reasons, but in some quarters much of the chatter afterward was about the coincidence of the contenders' spouses both wearing bright pink dresses. Michelle Obama's pink dress and jacket were by Michael Kors, while Ann Romney's short-sleeve dress was by Oscar de la Renta. They may have both opted for pink because it is a happy color -- or perhaps it was a nod to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. [WWD]

Leelee Sobieski steals the show in red |
Over the past couple of years, actress Leelee Sobieski went through something of a fashion makeover. It seems she has turned in the floral dresses and cleavage-baring gowns for a sleeker, more refined look. Maybe it has a little something to do with her menswear designer husband Adam Kimmel, or maybe she's just decided to sharpen up her look; either way, the actress has been earning some serious style cred.
It was impossible not to take notice of her noteworthy ensembles during the Tribeca Film Festival festivities earlier this year. From her white Jil Sander stretch cotton gown at the...

Paris Fashion Week 2013: Chanel, a force to be reckoned with |
PARIS -- Was the Chanel runway show going to be a wind-powered statement by designer Karl Lagerfeld on alternative energy and global warming? It certainly looked like it from the 13 enormous white rotating wind turbines erected underneath the glass ceiling of the Grand Palais for the spring-summer 2013 runway show held Tuesday morning at Paris Fashion Week.
But alas, it wasn't a themey collection in the vein of Lagerfeld's polar iceberg, faux fur extravaganza from a few seasons back, but rather a demonstration of the power of the original Chanel design codes, and the energy and creative output...

Paris Fashion Week 2013: Saint Laurent's ladies of the canyon |

Paris Fashion Week 2013: Givenchy's divine inspiration |
PARIS -- An organ solo. A procession of models in short dresses with wispy, wing-like panels pinned at their backs. No doubt, Riccardo Tisci had his Catholic roots in mind when he designed his spring-summer 2013 Givenchy collection, shown Sunday night during Paris Fashion Week. But he was also worshiping at the church of couture, paying homage to the old master Hubert de Givenchy, who founded his French fashion house in 1952.

The look: Hawaiian with a dash of rodeo queen (or Las Vegas-era Elvis, perhaps). Tiered lace mini dresses and peasant blouses. Flippy mini-skirts and studded vests in washed red-and-blue bandanna paisleys. Jeans, short shorts, sarong skirts and one-piece bathing suits in floral lei or hibiscus prints. Studded, white flared jeans, red leather tunic dresses and jackets. Studded gladiator ankle strap sandals on a chunky heel. Red,...
Paris Fashion Week 2013: Haider Ackermann |
PARIS -- Haider Ackermann, who presented his spring-summer 2013 collection Saturday morning at Paris Fashion Week, knows how to set a romantic scene. A single crackling overhead light at the top of the runway, spoken word and jazz on the soundtrack, and models walking ever slowly in clothes that look like they are dripping off their bodies. It's no wonder his pal Tilda Swinton is so devoted.

The look: Sexy as hell. East meets West, masculine meets feminine. Lush silk layers and liquid-like tailoring. Languid silk evening suits, robes and off-the-shoulder...
Paris Fashion Week 2013: Sharp and sexy at Roland Mouret |
PARIS -- Eva Mendes, Jennifer Garner, Carey Mulligan and many more are fans of wearing his structured, body conscious dresses on the red carpet. Because when it comes to fierce femininity, Roland Mouret has got it down. The designer showed his stellar spring-summer collection on Friday at Paris Fashion Week.
The look: Sexy, assertive. Sharp cuts and folds. Shards of color. Close-to-the-body draping. Shift dresses, pencil skirts and tops with a fragmented architecture. Judo-inspired vests and blazers. Paper-thin sculpted leather dresses.
The verdict: A marvel of construction.
Paris Fashion Week 2013: Futuristic and regal at Rick Owens |
PARIS -- Rick Owens showed his spring-summer 2013 collection at Paris Fashion Week with a wall of foam bubbling over onto the runway. Models with flying saucer-like hairstyles emerged out of the darkness as if from another world.
The look: Futuristic, regal. Lighter than air. Crinkled metallic bubble-shaped dresses over filmy layers. Coccooning tunics (some covered in dancing white threads as fine as marabou feathers). Shearling vests with squared-off necklines framed in black. Sheer, lean skirts slit up the back . Silvery robes fastened with a large gold disc in front. Sandal boots.

Target hosted an honest-to-goodness world premiere screening at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday night, complete with a red carpet, celebrity attendees Kristen Bell, Nia Long and Zachary Burr Abel in the front row, and a bespoke cocktail created for the event (the Roquette – a gimlet whose key ingredient was muddled arugula).
The occasion was the first public viewing – in its entirety – of “Falling for You,” a 12-minute meet-cute starring the aforementioned trio of actors, directed by Emmy-winning director Phil Abraham and featuring – in nearly every...

Paris Fashion Week 2013: Dior's new look |
PARIS -- Belgian designer Raf Simons blew the dust off the mantle of Paris high fashion on Friday when he presented his first women’s ready-to-wear collection as creative director for Christian Dior, where he replaced the disgraced John Galliano after a lengthy search for a successor. (Galliano, a star of the design world, was caught on a camera phone in February 2010 making drunken, anti-Semitic remarks that cost him his job and landed him in trouble with the law.)
The inspiration: The spirit of freedom as embraced by Christian Dior when he established the house in 1947, rebelling...
Paris Fashion Week 2013: Lanvin's foxy, Far East fight club |
PARIS -- A foxy, Far East fight club. That's what came to mind when Alber Elbaz presented the Lanvin spring-summer 2013 runway show at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday night.
The look: Asian-inspired. Disco decadent. Tuxedos and tuxedo dresses with single sleeves. Skirts and pants with sash belts worn over sexy bathing suits. Slouchy pants and jacket covered in sequins the size of razor blades. Jewel tone satin cocktail dresses with sharp cuts, origami-like folds and hems, and silk knot or flat bow details at the sides. Killer sandals with low, mirrored block heels. And how can you resist a...
