About NHS Careers

NHS Careers is the careers information service for the NHS in England.

It consists of a telephone and email helpline, website, literature and other supporting materials. NHS Careers is available to anyone in England wanting information on entering a career in the NHS. It also supports NHS trusts, schools, colleges and careers advisers. However, we are unable to answer individual enquiries on eligibility to work in the NHS, other than the information we have provided for international healthcare professionals.

Step into the NHS is a specific campaign aiming to raise awareness of the many career opportunities in the NHS among students in secondary school and further education. We also have a website for undergraduates and recent graduates, which offers information on the careers available based on their degree subject.

NHS Careers also jointly sponsors the Health Learning and Skills Advice Line with Skills for Health. Run by Careers Advice, the advice line offers careers information, advice and guidance to those already working in healthcare.

NHS Careers aims to:

  • Encourage the public to consider a career in the NHS
  • Attract potential employees to the NHS
  • Attract former staff to return to the NHS
  • Be an essential part of workforce planning in the NHS

Commissioned by the Department of Health, NHS Careers is managed by NHS Employers.
