Introduction

Aims

Design & Technology, Graphic Products - Vinyl Cover DesignProduct Design at KS3 is intended to complement other technology subjects in school by providing quality access to design and manufacturing experiences using Graphics and Resistant materials. The core philosophy of our technology curriculum provision is to encourage the girls to be truly independent and resourceful when solving complex design issues.

The design and practical element of the course, not only offers the opportunity for our pupils to develop the confidence and enthusiasm to tackle everyday practical problems, but also encourages them develop prospective careers in subjects such as Engineering, Industrial Manufacture and Architecture.

Teaching approach

This varies in response to the technological nature of each project and to the needs of the pupils. We are a team that provides a teaching environment, which is friendly, organised and productive, but that also remains disciplined.

Facilities and resources

Our design and technology workshop is comprehensively equipped with the hand tools and machinery required to cut and shape a wide range of Resistant Materials. Benches are multi-media and there are a full set of drawing boards for formal graphics and technical drawing. There are two computers in the workshop area and access to a full ICT suite with desktop and CAD packages.

The department also has an A3 printer and CAMM 1 available for all KS3 and KS4 Technology students.

In addition, there is a dedicated Machine Room with a Circular Saw, Thicknesser/Planer and Band Saw. We also store and provide a comprehensive selection of Hardwoods and Softwoods, Ferrous and Non-Ferrous metals and plastics.
